Zambia Women’s National Team Coach Bruce Mwape has declared his lasses injury-free and ready for the 2020 COSAFA Women’s Championship slated for Port Elizabeth in South Africa from 3-14 November 2020.
Speaking in an interview before departure for South Africa, Mwape said the team had prepared enough and they are looking forward to the tournament because he believes in his players.
“We are ready because we have done all that it takes in terms of preparations for the tournament. I still believe the girls can do well, most of them have been at COSAFA before so they know what it takes to win the tournament,” Mwape told the ZamFoot Crew.
In the 2019 edition of the championship, Mwape’s troops missed the trophy by a whisker to hosts South Africa losing 1-nil in the final, and this time around the gaffer is aiming at winning the trophy and has tasked his players to rise to the occasion.
“Our target is to win the trophy, last time we reached the finals against South Africa and came out as runners-up. Even though some of the players we had last year are not with the team, this is the time for the locals to prove that they can also deliver the results.”
Zambia will have their first match on Wednesday against Lesotho, before locking horns with neighbors Malawi 5 days later in what could be a Group B decider to determine who qualifies to the semifinals.
The Senior Championship will run concurrently with the Under-17 with all matches being played in Port Elizabeth and will run from 3-14 November 2020
