Mopani Copper Mines PLC has announced new dates for the 2026 IRH–Mopani Challenge Cup, with the pre-season tournament set to take place on 5 and 12 September.
The annual competition will feature teams from Mopani-sponsored clubs Nkana and Mufulira Wanderers, including their men’s Super League sides, Young Nkana, Young Mufulira Wanderers, Nkana Girls and Mufulira Wanderers Queens.
The first-leg fixtures will be played at Shinde Stadium in Mufulira on Saturday, 5 September, before the return matches are held at Nkana Stadium in Kitwe on Saturday, 12 September.
The tournament will serve as an important part of both clubs’ preparations for the new season, while proceeds from the matches will be donated to charitable organisations and individuals in Kitwe and Mufulira.
Mopani Copper Mines chief executive officer Charles Sakanya has urged both clubs to field their strongest teams and use the tournament to assess their readiness for the new campaign.
“As the Challenge Cup is part of pre-season preparations, I urge both clubs to field their strongest teams to test their readiness to compete for the Super League honours and continental qualification in the new season,” Sakanya said.
He added that the tournament would also provide an opportunity to support vulnerable members of the two communities.
“Through this event, we raise funds for charitable causes. All proceeds will be directed towards selected organisations and individuals working tirelessly to uplift vulnerable members of our communities.”
The IRH–Mopani Challenge Cup will give Nkana and Mufulira Wanderers valuable competitive preparation ahead of the new Super League season, while continuing its charitable role in the Copperbelt communities.
