Wada: We underestimated Namibia

Chipolopolo Boys coach Wedson Nyirenda has said his players underestimated Namibia in the final Group B match at the on going CHAN tournament in Morocco.

“We came to this competition with the aim of winning the tournament. We’re going to play against Sudan in Marrakech. I think my players underestimated Namibia and they surprised us by scoring first” Wada said

“First and foremost we came into this tournament with the aim of winning this cup. We may go through some obstacles here and there but that is the name of football. We are getting somewhere,” he said.

“We are going to meet Sudan in Marrakech, it is not going to be an easy game. Every game that we have played has not been easy. You saw the way Namibia was coming at us, it was not an easy game.”

He added: “My players were very complacent and thought it was going to be an easy game. We were shocked in the first half, Namibia got the goal first but we reacted and came with an equalizer through our young boy Lazarus.”

Nyirenda said, “One thing I can say about the team is that they have shown a lot of character that they want to win despite all the difficulties that we are getting into at times.”

  1. The only time I saw us play well was between the two goals. We need a serious authority stamping reaction against Sudan. We now know that Namibia will be a threat come March in the Afcon Qualifier and thus there is need to respect them. And bring back Mbola for those games, your defence needs help. No more individual and disjointed football in the knock out stages coach…you have my backing…

  2. But coach why didn’t you rest silwimba together with other players with yellow cards? The mid field was very poor Namibia dominated. We are used to passing the ball not the chipante pante i saw yesterday. Front line as well no coordination Augustine Mulenga was all over picking the ball from the deep and trying to attack. I hope Bazo will be fit for sudan game because he fights for the ball and will create chanses. I prefer Bazo and Kabaso in wings and Kabole Top man, not too sure who the best number 10 is in this team. We can win this Cup with more efforts and purpose from the lads and coaching stuff.

  3. Only dull people didnt see that zambia was relaxed in order to preserve legs for the quater final game. we all saw that after zambia equalised, they shifted into a relaxed game, taking it easy as the game went by. Good strategy by wada wada.

    • If ending up earning a second yellow card to miss the quarter final is part of the strategy then you need to re-look the meaning of the word strategy. Like someone said, “What’s the use of running if you are not on the right road”.

  5. If chipantepante is what you call good strategy ba Paradox, then am afraid we are headed back home after the game against Sudan. We need a creator in the middle of the pack instead of a host of defenders. We can’t rely on wing play only because Sudan have studied our game and what they will do is to shut down our rail lines chapwa! I agree that wingers are needed but can only complement a good and creative midfield. That is what makes up a good and lethal team.

    • The players you are calling for contributed to the loss in Ndola to Nigeria and a draw in Cameroun, when replaced the defense was much better, Silwimba represented well ZESCO just like Kapumbu during continental Club Championship, they are equally well tested. Remember also the Kapumbu was short-listed for the AfCON XI, football experts saw something in him!

    • @ Truth lets be honest.
Simon Silwimba has so far not put a foot long. His energetic efforts on the wing have complimented Mbewe’s efforts up front. However, I agree with you Mbola must be called back to create competion in the squad.
I blame Wada for not substituting Simon Silwimba knowing quite well that he was risking suspention.

  6. Kapumbu awe sure this boy is slow n dull
    Silwimba has no football brains
    Mtonga n malama chipantepante
How can we play without creative midfielders?
Namibia looked more superior than chipolopolo
Can please tell Wada chipolopolo is NOT Airbus but macopolo bola panshi

  7. yes ichipante pante.and slow on the ball we won’t buy that story. How can you reserve your energy when your opponent is pressing you!Namibia were the first ones to react and win all balls in difficult situation.

  8. In response to wada wada’s comment. Thats frivolous of triviality. The did not relax they were outplayed in all departments. You should give players jerseys on merit. And technicaly you very poor. You rely on individual players eg mbewe and mulenga. Thats why you and faz blocked the players who wanted to seek for greener pastures. Why did you carry jack chirwa who was very impressive on build up. Discard kondwani, kapumbu and chama they are rotten. We need serious bola brink nathan sinkala, mbola and kabaso.. Kodwani motonga is tall, old, stiff and slow he cant play as a box to box midfielder. Lameck banda should also play. Why did you pick him. That back four its a duplication of bunder. Chicken also failed with rotten deffenders..

    • We have allowed 2 goals in 3 matches, that tells you the story. Namibia did not allow a goal in the first 2 games, they have a good defense but we scored them with clear beating of their defense and this happened 3 – 4 occasions, we could have scored more goals, Namibia was lucky to escape a loss…The goal they scored was a 50:50 chance!

  9. Why aren’t any of u monkeys asking questions about the “difficulties” the team keeps going through. To me it suggests that things have not changed at Faz in terms of organisation for games and tournaments….

  10. Wada should not hide in the name of underestimating the other opponent..just shows that Wada is incapable of reading and analysing the game. Our midfield has been limping from the first game we played with Uganda. Clueless and arrogant Wada should just admitt that he left the best midfielders back home..and went with tired takatakas like Mtonga…

  11. But this coach said he would not under-rate Namibia before the game. Just give credit where it’s due, they had a better game plan than we did

  12. Ba Zamfoot sorry to change the subject, but are we going to get a player rater for this game or is that just for wins?

I know I gripe about this quite often, but it seems to be a trend that we only see player raters when Zambia wins. Unfortunately I didn’t get to see the game otherwise trust that I would be more than happy to contribute.

  13. I think it’s missed opportunity to expose young lads especially those who played U20 World Cup. Chan is a tournament to develop players.
