This is history for the club – Chiyangi

Green Eagles boss Aggrey Chiyangi says his team has made history by reaching the next round of the CAF Champions League.

The Kawale boys who are participating in the CAF Champions League for the first time eliminated the South Africa PSL giants Orlando Pirates to progress to the next round.

“This is history for the club. The club has never competed in this competition this is the first and reaching this far its history, ” he said.

“It was a very tough game and we knew that it was going tough because Pirates have so much experience. We prepared our team to absorb the pressure and not concede a lot of goals because we knew they would come at us especially in the first half.”

Chiyangi revealed that the club had a number of issues to work on ahead of the new Super League season.

“There are so many things that we need to work on but we don’t have so much time. We will do what we can and we will push. We know we playing a team from Angola next and we know it won’t be easy. The only thing I pray for is to play the first game away, ” he said.

Orlando Pirates interim boss Rhulani Mokwena believes his team gave their best despite losing.

“The boys gave their all, You can’t ask for more. It’s clear to see that the players did all they could, they left everything on the pitch. Sometimes you have to try, We tried from the technical aspect to alter things it’s just unfortunate that the result did not go our but todays performance is encouraging, ” he said.

“Of course confidence is a consequence of results. Wins breed confidence and there has been short supply at the moment and at the same time goals have not been coming. We can do better and we know we can do better, It’s just about finding that victory and getting back work to find our balance and stability. We believe we need a little bit of time to stabilize things. ”

“Not at all, I think it’s not about me. Every time I come out I carry a different responsibility. It will be extremely unwise of me to think about myself and taking this position so we go as we go. The Chairman always says the opportunity finds the man and the man does not find the moment. We have a very good team that fights and try their best. We just have to keep working to overturn the current tide. Am the least to be worried about me, ” he added.

Happy Jele broke the deadlock in the 60th minute heading home from a corner to put the Buccaneers in the lead ending an over 400-minute goal drought. The celebrations were however shortlived as Amity Shamende leveled matters almost immediately. The draw sent the Sea Robbers packing and the Kawale boys to the next round .
