Perry Mutapa happy with a draw in Choma…Confident Power Dynamos still in the title fight

Power Dynamos played out to a goalless draw on Wednesday in a tricky away fixture in Choma against Green Eagles.

Head coach Perry Mutapa was brave to start with young goalkeeper Jackson Kakunta who came under heavy criticism after making two blunders in the 2-0 loss to Lusaka Dynamos over the weekend. Mutapa however believes people learn from mistakes in football and feels Kakunta recovered and did very well in Choma.

The Kitwe based side is however still in with a chance of qualifying for ABSA CUP and a hard-fought draw in a rescheduled encounter against Green Eagles is a point gained for Power Dynamos and coach Mutapa is happy with a point away in Choma.

“it was a tough game it could have gone either way but obviously coming from a loss I will take a point from this pitch,   what am saying is playing away in choma, I will take a point because it is not easy to come here and get a point I think in the last three-four, five years I think Green Eagles have done well because most of the time they have been winning from here and you could see from today’s game it could have gone either way both teams had chances to score so its a fair result for me,” Mutapa told the ZamFoot Crew.

“So obviously, they were utilizing what they train. For us, we made sure that we trained for this because we knew Green Eagles were going to play long balls and take the second balls or a long ball for someone to run in the space and they score. Coming out 0-0 we will say we did a good job so we planned for this so it’s not like we came in this game under pressure, yes we wanted to win but its a very difficult ground because Green Eagles most of the times utilize home ground advantage but coming from a loss I will take a point. There are stadiums you go to, like Prison Leopard you come out with a draw that’s a point gained then we worry that we have not utilized home ground advantage but I think with the way we have played this game the fighting spirit was there the game we played against Lusaka Dynamos we lost because of errors but today you could see the goalkeeper did a very fantastic job and that’s what we want because people learn from mistakes its a game of mistakes you can see how Jackson Kakunta came out and he made sure the balls did not go in, So we learn from mistakes. I think we have done something good here now we have to build on this draw the next game must be a win,” he added.

Mutapa has already put the draw behind him and is looking forward to the kitwe derby as they host Kitwe United on Sunday.

Mutapa is still confident his team can do well in this season and win the league with only eight points separating them and Zanaco at the summit with two games in hand.

“We are playing Kitwe united next and we are at home so we are going to make sure we collect the three points and then go for another rescheduled game and try to win it. I think we will be among the Top 6 if we play our games in hand. So that we will be in touch with the top team,” he said.

“The league has not gone very far the top team is only 8 points away from us and we have got two games in hand so if we do well we will be on 26 points depending on how they are going to play, so our aim this season is to obviously go for the topmost but we have to win those games in hand and especially going into the next game we have to win it and then we take it from there,” he added.
