Patrick Phiri leaves Nakambala for Forest

Nakambala Leopards have confirmed that head coach Patrick Phiri has left the club.

Club Chairman Lloyd Mwale confirmed Phiri’s departure on Friday and that the club would now begin the process of finding a replacement.

“Yes we have received the resignation letter from coach Patrick Phiri,” said Mwale.

“We will chart a new way forward for the team. Assistant Coach Malikoni takes charge until we appoint a successor.”

Appointed in July 2015, Phiri turned things around for the club, saving them from possible relegation and overseeing a 12-match unbeaten run before losing to Red Arrows on Wednesday.

Nakambala Leopards are fifth on the standings level on 12 points with Zanaco who are in fourth on goal difference.

Meanwhile, Forest Rangers Football Club Chairman Ben Mukuka has confirmed to fazfootball.com that Patrick Phiri has joined the club replacing Kaunda Simonda who parted company with the club this week.

“The situation is that Mr Simonda has left and Mr Phiri has joined us,” said Mukuka.

Forest Rangers are placed in 16th position on the 18-team log with 5 points from seven matches having registered a single win and two draws.

  1. Patrick Phiri seems to have a midas touch in local football. I think its speaks volumes as to his quality.

Quality coaches in the local league that I can think of in the Zambian league are Patrick Phiri, George Lwandamina, I don’t know too many others. I think Aggrey Chiyangi has potential; and I say this because of the amazing work he did at Choma Eagles (I think it was them) back in the day.

You guys who watch local football, who are the good coaches out there?

  2. Chabinga he led konkola blades to Backlays cup final.brought Mufulira wanderer’s in premier league and finished on 6th before resigning

      • Manfred Chabinga is not coaching any team at the moment but it is rumoured he might be headed for Power Dynamos. Was seen looking around for accomodation in Kitwe and many fans started the story.

  3. @ positive thinking,
I have been looking for you over FAZ & MAFRO SPORTS.
I am very disappointed with people like you who think the MAFRO deal is fine.
If a club from Ghana can sign with your mafro for 150,000.For nkana their deal is almost 180,000.
why should a national team like ours sign for 200,000.
and all you can say is it fineee , why

    • Grand. I didn’t say the deal was optimum. What had me really unimpressed is the people who want to say Kalu did a better job when in fact that administration destroyed that Nike contract by allowing an exec member to sell replica jerseys.

I also said something was better than nothing. It has been a year of now Nike deal and no revenue, but why not take $200,000 rather then $0 even if it is a temporary solution. I have to give Kamanga credit, because rather than sit around waiting for something to happen; he went out and made a decision. I said it before, “I would rather have a leader who makes a bad decision, than have one who does not make one at all.”

  4. @ positive thinking
Why are you bringing kalu in this?
Ok , because you have brought his name.
Kalu s administration were the first to strike a dressing deal with 500, 000 usd. By that time were we always eliminated in the first around at afcon, but still managed to get this deal.
Nike was told to increase the offer, but Nike declined refused to increase the packed amount. That was when Faz started negotiating with puma and adidas.
What annoys me is to sign with unknown brand, at a less value. I better wait than being given crumbs

    • Grand, I don’t think we will agree on this. I bring Kalu into this because his admin HAD DONE NOTHING FOR A YEAR. Anyone would have negotiated from a position of power, I would have reached out to Puma and Adidas prior to the Nike deal expiring. I would have also started negotiations with Nike before the deal expired.

I have also said, and I will say it again. I am not a fan of this deal. What I am a fan of, is someone who takes a step to make things happen rather than sit and wait for something to happen. This deal is less than optimum. Kamanga needs to reevaluate what they are doing, but I commend him for making something happen. How many times did I ask about the kit deal in the last couple of months, and all I got was crickets chirping.
