Green Eagles boss Mutapa demands sharper edge amid injury concerns ahead of Mutondo clash

Perry Mutapa has urged his side to be more clinical in front of goal as Green Eagles prepare to face Mutondo Stars, warning that missed chances continue to cost his team valuable points.

The Eagles head into the encounter at Arthur Davies Stadium on the back of a frustrating 1-1 draw with Konkola Blades, where a late goal denied them victory.

“Not much time to prepare but we knew about this game a long time ago,”

Mutapa said. “The game we played against Konkola Blades was enough preparation.

“I think the most important thing, especially like the last game, we just needed to defend our lead. But in the first place, we had chances to win the game even 3-0, so we must utilise the chances we create.”

Green Eagles’ preparations have been complicated by injury concerns to key players, with captain Spencer Sautu, Simon Mulenga and Kunda Nkandu all doubtful.

“I think Spencer is doubtful, Simon is doubtful, but we’ll see by tomorrow what happens,” Mutapa added.

Despite the setbacks, Mutapa called on supporters to remain firmly behind the team as they push for consistency in the latter stages of the season.

“They should just continue supporting this team. Yes, we would have loved to get maximum points in the games we have drawn, but in the second round we have just lost one game,” he said.

“To the sponsors, they are always there for us and we are very grateful. We have to do great things and make them proud.”

The hosts, Mutondo Stars, come into the match following a 1-1 draw with Green Buffaloes, while Eagles’ stalemate against Konkola Blades extended a mixed run of form.

Green Eagles have managed just one win in their last five matches, while Mutondo are winless in six, underlining the pressure on both sides to deliver.

Recent meetings between the two teams suggest another tight contest, with three of their last five encounters ending in draws and each side claiming one victory.

Kick-off is scheduled for 15:00 local time, with match tickets priced at K30 for open wing and K200 for VIP seating.
