Copper Queens opponents at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), Nigeria’s Super Falcons have unveiled their 25 member squad for the tournament.
Coach Justine Madugu has named a strong squad for the continental showpiece. The major absentee is former Leicester City defender Ashleigh Megan Plumptre who will miss the tournament due to injury. The 28 year old has failed to recover from an injury sustained towards the end of last season.
Meanwhile four players are set for their tournament debuts. The quartet of Comfort Erhabor, Rofiat Imuran, Joy Omewa and Fatima Oloko have earned their maiden WAFCON call-ups after impressing at club level and during recent national team engagements.
Madugu has largely retained the backbone of the squad that won the 2024 WAFCON with captain Rasheedat Ajibade, reigning African Goalkeeper of the Year Chiamaka Nnadozie, veteran defender Osinachi Ohale, midfielders Jennifer Echegini, Toni Payne and Halimatu Ayinde, alongside attacking stars Asisat Oshoala, Gift Monday, Esther Okoronkwo, Francisca Ordega, Omorinsola Babajide, Chinwendu Ihezuo and Uchenna Kanu all making the final cut.
Nigeria, who are the most successful team in this tournament are seeking a record-extending 11th WAFCON title.
The Super Falcons are drawn in Group C alongside the Copper Queens, Malawi women’s national football team and Egypt women’s national football team.
The tournament will run from 26 July to 16 August in Morocco and will also serve as a qualifier for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil, with four automatic qualification places available for African teams.
