Numba, ZANACO reunited….as Magic pens two and half year deal

Super League side ZANACO FC have confirmed the return of club legend Numba Mumamba as head coach as earlier reported by the ZamFoot Crew.

Numba and his Assistant Noel Mwandila left their roles at Kabwe Warriors to join the Bankers after a lucrative offer was tabled.

The duo have penned two and half year contracts and were unveiled this morning.

“Today, I am happy to welcome our new head coach, Numba Mumamba, and his assistant coach, Noel Mwandila. Numba Mumamba is not new to Zanaco. He is a renowned former player and coach who successfully guided Zanaco FC to the Premier League title in 2016,” ZANACO CEO Modest Hamalaabi said.

“Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to extend a warm welcome back to Coach Numba Mumamba, our new head coach for the senior men’s team. This is not a new chapter but a continuation of a remarkable journey. As alluded to earlier, Coach Numba is no stranger to Zanaco FC. As a player, he donned the famous red and black striped jersey with pride, contributing immensely to the club’s success, including lifting the Premier League trophy five times.”

“As a coach, he has demonstrated his tactical brilliance and unwavering dedication by winning the Premier League four times – twice as assistant coach with Zanaco and twice as head coach with Zanaco and Zesco United. He has also won the Charity Shield trophy twice and the Absa/Barclays Cup once. Today, we are thrilled to have him return to guide us toward greater heights.

Coach Numba will be supported by Noel Mwandila and David Chilufya as assistant coaches. The three have signed contracts for two and a half years,” he added.

At Zanaco, Magic is a true club legend as he played an instrumental role as a player in ZANACO’s first four league titles between 2002 and 2006 while the 2009 title found him as an assistant coach.

Numba, who joined Zanaco from Konkola Blades in 1999,led them to their seventh and last title to date in 2016.

He steered Zanaco to their debut Barclay’s Cup (ABSA Cup ) win in 2017 but it was again under his watch in the 2019/2020 season that they failed to qualify for the competition for the first time ever.

But his achievements with the club goes beyond silverware and was the first Zanaco coach to guide them to the group stage of the CAF Champions League in 2017 and second in the CAF Confederation Cup in the 2019/2020 season.
