Chalwe expecting tough ZANACO test as Power Dynamos chase title push

By Angela Bambala Bwalya

Power Dynamos assistant coach Songwe Chalwe says his side is prepared for a difficult contest when they host ZANACO at Arthur Davies Stadium on Wednesday, with the MTN Super League title race entering its decisive stage.

League leaders Power sit top of the table on 64 points and head into the fixture unbeaten in their last 14 matches across all competitions, while ZANACO are seventh with 42 points after one win, two draws and two defeats in their last five outings.

Despite the gap between the two sides, Chalwe says his team is treating the fixture with maximum seriousness.

“I believe each game we play is a cup final and we are going towards the end of the league,” Chalwe said.

“We know how important the points are for each and every team. It’s going to be a tough match, but we’ve prepared very well for ZANACO.”

With the title race tightening, Chalwe stressed that there is no room for complacency.

“Like we always tell our players, we are not yet done, so each game is important. We take it with seriousness and we just have to make sure that we deliver.”

The match also marks Power’s return to Arthur Davies Stadium after a run of away fixtures, with Chalwe acknowledging the added responsibility of performing in front of home supporters.

“It’s been a while since we played at home and the fans expect us to do well for them,” he said.

Power are also navigating a demanding schedule following their recent continental campaign, with Wednesday’s clash set to be their fifth game in a short spell.

“We’ve already played four games, this will be our fifth game. You know where we are, we expect games like this and we have to get used to situations.

“We are coming from continental football and the games are coming in thick and fast. As a team and technical bench, we just have to make sure that we manage our players and they deliver.”

Chalwe added that the squad remains fully focused on the club’s bigger ambitions rather than individual recognition.

“The players know how important this game is. We always take it one game at a time. We just have to make sure that we give our best at the end of the day.

“It’s very important for us, but our main objective as a club is to make sure we achieve the targets we set at the beginning of the season. Individual accolades will come later. That’s just a plus at the end of the season.”

He ended with a message for the club’s supporters, urging them to turn out in large numbers.

“Like always, we urge them to come in numbers like they always do. They always give us the support which we need and we make sure we give them the result they require.”

Power Dynamos host ZANACO at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe on Wednesday, with kick-off set for 15:00 local time.
