Nchanga Rangers are keen on keeping their head coach George ‘Chicken’ Lwandamina, the ZamFoot Crew understands.
Nine Time MTN Super League Champions, ZESCO were reported to have reached an agreement with experienced gaffer to take charge for a fourth stint on a two year deal.
However sources close to the club have told the ZamFoot Crew that the Nchanga Rangers hierarchy are not willing to lose Lwandamina with the coach likely to stay in Chingola.
“The club wants to keep the coach and it seems they are succeeding as he is still in Chingola and has already started making plans for next season with demands of things he wants to be put in place ahead of the new season,” a source told the ZamFoot Crew.
The 62 year old joined Brave in November 2024 after replacing Robert Tembo. His appointment came following a disappointing start to the campaign that saw Tembo and his technical bench placed on administrative leave.
The veteran coach’s most recent stint at ZESCO United lasted from December 2022 to August 2024. He departed after the club failed to progress beyond the first preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup.
A former Zambia international defender, Lwandamina remains the most successful coach in ZESCO United’s history. He guided the club to four league titles across two spells, winning back-to-back championships in 2014 and 2015 after arriving from Red Arrows, before adding successive crowns in 2017 and 2018 during his second tenure.
Lwandamina is also serving as the interim head coach of the Zambia national team and remains one of the country’s most decorated football managers.
He led Nchanga Rangers to a fifth place finish and the quarter finals of the ABSA Cup.
