New Technical Director Kayuni starts work at FAZĀ

Experienced Tanzanian FIFA instructor Sunday Kayuni has already gotten down to work at Football House as the new Technical Director, the ZamFoot Crew understands.

As exclusively reported by the ZamFoot Crew in May, The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) have appointed Kayuni as its new Technical Director.

Kayuni has been in Zambia for over two weeks and the ZamFoot Crew has learned that he assumed office at the start of June.

Kayuni replaced Lyson Zulu, who left the role in January after joining FIFA as the Technical Development Scheme (TDS) High-Performance Specialist for Africa, with responsibility for supporting member associations across the continent.

Zulu, who joined FAZ in 2019, emerged as one of Africa’s leading figures in high-performance football development. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Management from Loughborough University and a Sports Performance degree from University of Bath.

In 2024, Zulu was among 24 Technical Directors from around the world awarded the FIFA Technical Leadership Diploma in Zurich following an intensive 18-month academic programme.

Kayuni, 68, brings nearly four decades of experience in football development and coaching education.

He is also familiar with Zambian football, having previously worked alongside Zulu and fellow CAF instructor Chris Chibuye during several coaching programmes, including the 2023 CAF B Licence course attended by coaches such as Billy Mwanza, Charity Nthala and Zimisileni Moyo.

The Tanzanian tactician holds a wide range of qualifications, including a CONMEBOL Professional Coaching Licence, a Football Director of Technique Diploma from ATFA Argentina, a Youth Football Development Diploma, CAF A Coaching Diploma and multiple FIFA FUTURO certifications.

His career has spanned work with youth and senior national teams, as well as clubs across various divisions in East Africa. Among his notable achievements are league titles with Young Africans S.C. in 1995, 1996 and 1997, and the Kenyan league crown with A.F.C. Leopards in 1998.

Kayuni has also served as Tanzania Football Federation Technical Director and Education Officer, while working as a CAF Elite Instructor since 2012 and a CAF Club Licensing Instructor since 2008.
