Mutapa: Clinical Power Can Edge Arrows in Nkoloma Showdown

Power Dynamos head coach Oswald Mutapa believes composure in front of goal will be decisive when his side face log leaders Red Arrows in Thursday’s rescheduled MTN Super League clash at Nkoloma Stadium.

Kick-off is set for 15h00, with just one point separating the two title contenders — Arrows top the table on 39 points from 20 matches, while Power sit second on 38 points with two games in hand.

Mutapa expects a fierce contest but insists his side have what it takes to leave Lusaka with maximum points.

“It’s an important game for both clubs. They are playing at home and it won’t be easy, but if we apply ourselves properly and take our chances, we should be victorious at the end of the day,” Mutapa said.

The Kitwe-based outfit head into the fixture buoyed by a recent win over NAPSA Stars, while the Airmen are looking to bounce back from defeat away to Nchanga Rangers. Despite the contrasting momentum, Mutapa is wary of the challenge posed by the experienced hosts.

“A tight fixture, yes, but this is a game that can only be decided by scoring. We have to perform, but the result is the most important thing,” he added.

Power Dynamos’ CAF campaign earlier in the season, Mutapa believes, has hardened his squad for high-pressure encounters. He has challenged his players to marry the performances shown in continental competition with the cutting edge they displayed in their previous league outing.

“Coming from the CAF games, we’ve gained experience and lessons. If we apply ourselves the way we did in those matches and combine that with the goals we scored in our last game, it will give us the result.”

While preparations have remained consistent, Mutapa hinted that tactical adjustments could prove crucial in breaking down Arrows at their fortress.

“The way we prepare remains the same. It’s just the tactical aspect that might change on the field, but we know how important this game is as we move forward.”

The encounter carries major implications in the title race. Victory for Arrows would strengthen their grip at the summit, while a Power win would see them leapfrog the Airmen with two matches still in hand — a significant advantage in the closing stretch of the campaign.

Mutapa also called on the Power faithfuls to rally behind the team in what promises to be one of the defining fixtures of the season.

“All Power-loving fans should come out in numbers and give the moral support the team needs.”

With fine margins separating the top two and the championship race intensifying, Thursday’s showdown at Nkoloma could prove pivotal in shaping the destiny of the 2025/26 MTN Super League title.
