Copper Queens midfielder Evarine Susan Katongo will this weekend return to the pitch after recovering from an ankle injury.
The midfield starlet sustained an ankle injury while on National duty in South Africa during the 2023 COSAFA Women’s Championship.
Katongo joined the Copper Queens joined defender Lushomo Mweemba, Jackline Nkole and Natasha Nanyangwe on the injury.
Nkole and Nanyangwe were ruled out of the tournament while Mweemba and Katongo finished the tournament but sustained injuries in the final.
The Luyando Foundation Girls product missed out on ZISD’s five nil win over Kabwe Celtic last weekend.
Inonge Kaloustian and Namasiku Lungowe scored a brace each while Mercy Mkandawire scored and assisted in the emphatic win.
Katongo has since travelled with the ‘Ku Chalo’ Girls to Solwezi where they will face Police Dove Queens in a week 7 FAZ Women’s Super Division encounter.
Katongo who made her Senior National Team debut at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo against Brazil is a graduate of the Zambia U-20 National Team.
She captained the team in the 2022 U-20 World Cup Qualifiers and scored a goal and set up two in the 6-0 demolition of Malawi.
She played all the games at the 2022 WAFCON and scored the goal that sealed Zambia’s bronze against Nigeria.
She also played a pivotal part at the 2022 COSAFA Women’s Championship where she again scored and Zambia won the tournament.
She also played at the Copper Queens’ maiden FIFA Women’s World Cup appearance in New Zealand.
