Govt turned down FAZ’s $30, 000 request for Asanovic’s salary

Government can only contribute USD10, 000 towards the USD30, 000,0 request from the Football Association, FAZ.

In a leaked official correspondence from Ministry of Sports Permanent Secretary Chileshe Kangwa to FAZ General Secretary Adrian Kashala, the government has indicated that the amount can be reviewed ‘once the funding resources for the Ministry improves.’

“The Ministry is in receipt of your letter appointing Mr Aljosa Asanovic as Senior National Football Team coach,” read part of the letter

“You may be aware, that the Ministry has a Memorandum of Understanding with you for the contribution of USD 10, 000 for the coach’s salary. In this regard, your request to extend the contribution from USD10, 000 to USD30, 000 was reviewed.

In the previous agreement, FAZ used to contribute USD15, 000 with USD10, 000 coming from government.

“In view of the above, I wish to advise that the Ministry will currently stick to the USD10, 000 subject to review of our MOU once the funding resources for the Ministry improves.

  1. So you are telling me this wasn’t sorted before the announcement of Asanovic? Also, the government is funny. $30,000/month surely you can’t spare that? What kind of budget is the ministry operating with? Ello how can you ask for more money than what is listed on your MOU? Nobody thought it would make sense to update the MOU or at least offer Asanovic a salary fitting within the MOU?

Ello ba government should just shut up if Zambia fails to do anything because clearly they are not helping.
