Asanovic who? Govt in the dark over Chipolopolo coach

The Minister of Youth, Sports and Arts Elvis Nkandu has said his ministry is yet to receive any official communication from the Football association of Zambia(FAZ) over the appointment of the new coach for the men’s senior national soccer team.

He said his ministry was not involved at any stage of the recruitment process of the new coach and has since advised FAZ to inform the government next time they will be hiring a coach for the national team.

Nkandu said government has however maintained their USSD 10,000 contribution towards the chipolopolo coach’s salary and that there will be no excuse to fail to qualify to the next Africa cup of nations edition.

He said failure to qualify for the 34th edition of Africa cup which will kick off next year in Ivory Coast , will not be taken lightly by the government.

FAZ on the 18th january appointed former Napoli player and Croatia national team assistant coach Aljosa Asanovic as Chipolopolo head coach.

  1. This FAZ, even the simplest of things are blundered. Kamanga continues to burn bridges at every opportunity he gets it seems like. I can’t wait for this man to disappear from our football scene

  2. As I always like to remark from time to time the culture of organisations is greatly shaped by the character of the person at the top. This Nkandu, minister of sport, is clearly by his various furtive comments aiming for Faz to fail. While at the same time he claims publicly and strongly that Chipolopolo must qualify for Afcon. His comments are a veiled threat to discourage the new coach and is hoping against hope that the Kamanga team do not succeed. Remember this is the chap who pushed the agenda of his friend Kalu to control management of the national team. Unfortunately, Faz is operating in a toxic environment that does not suit Kamanga’s laid back demeanour! Kalu, an arrogant bugger, that helped him succeed.
Unless Kamanga comes out fighting to stop this nonsense all his best laid plans for afcon 2023 will be in disarray.

    • What plans has Kamanga put in place? Not trying to pick fights, just trying to understand what plan Kamanga has for 2023.

I will agree that the government and FAZ need to get on the same page for the good of the game. Otherwise we will continue to wallow in the football wilderness and perhaps miss out on Zambia’s most talented generation of players. This sad in that respect and infuriating for us fans.

  3. I would like to know who was Kalu’s campaign manager , who was in Kalu’s campaign team and where was hon.Nkandu during the time when Kalu was FAZ President?
