Govt to Meet FAZ Over Chipolopolo’s CHAN Collapse

Government says it will hold a meeting with the Football Association of Zambia -FAZ- to address the continued poor performance of the Men’s Senior National Team.

This follows the Chipolopolo’s early exit from the ongoing African Nations Championship -CHAN-tournament, where the team failed to progress past the group stage after suffering four consecutive defeats.

Sports Minister Elvis Nkandu expressed disappointment, saying it is unacceptable for a national team to perform so poorly on a continental stage.

In an interview with ZNBC Sport News in Lusaka today Nkandu stated that once the FAZ officials and technical bench return from Kenya, the Government will convene a meeting to address the issue.

He said the goal is to find tangible solutions to the team’s declining performance, which he said has made the nation a laughing stock.

He lamented that in the past, Zambia would not lose to the teams that have recently defeated them, an indication that the standard of football has deteriorated.

  1. You are looking in the wrong direction, Govt. The decline of the nation teams has been coming for a long time. There are no structures in place. Almost every primary school in Ndola had a soccer team and a playing field. Now, people are building houses on the soccer fields. Every compound had a place where you can play icipombwa, now kids compete with cars playing soccer in gravel roads. What do you expect? Decline, sort out the councils to plan for open spaces.

  2. lapse of men’s nation team.
    1. akaso when it comes to investing in infrastructure.
    – The did not plan for the future during the time when the nation team was doing fine.
-Even morden stadia look old. can’t we build small stadia that are Nice and meets world class standards in areas like Livingstone, Mongu, solwezi, Kasama and kitwe.Morrocco have done this.
    2. Why should people build houses in place meant for public facility eg school grounds. and you expect your nation team to tick.
    3. Kamanga reduced the number of foreign players for clubs registration and involment on a playing day, this has highly affected the Zambian clubs progression on international games. Football has changed, you need local and foreign players in a team.
