Buffaloes consolidate top position, Nkwazi robbed

Green Buffaloes Women’s football club has opened an eight-point lead at the summit of the FAZ Women’s Super League following a 3-1 win over ZISD Queens while Indeni Roses recorded a huge win over Mufulira Wanderers Queens.

The FAZ Women’s Super League entered week 23 of action over the weekend. One game was played on Saturday and the rest took place on Sunday.

At Independence Stadium, Log leaders Green Buffaloes continued their ruthless form as they eased past Zambia Institute of Sustainable Development (ZISD) Queens 3-1.

Natasha Nanyangwe scored her second goal of the season for Buffaloes in just her fourth match. Theresa Chewe and skipper Joanna Benaya also contributed a goal each while Lydia Shamalima scored a consolation goal for ZISD.

At Nkoloma Stadium, Red Arrows returned to.winning ways after two games without maximum points. Mary Mambwe and Helen Chanda scored a goal each as the Airwomen edged ZESCO Ndola Girls 2-1. ZESCO scored their goal through Copper Queens goalkeeper, Vast Phiri.

At the Cagey, Indeni Sports Complex, Indeni Roses recorded a huge 6-0 win over struggling Mufulira Wanderers Queens.

Former Nkana player Natasha Kapombo scored a hat-trick with Noria Sosala providing a brace while Esther Namukwasa scored a goal to seal a well deserved win.

Lusaka Dynamos Ladies and YASA Queens played out to a 1-1 draw while Police Dove Queens edged Nkana Queens 1-0.

Moses Mwanza reports from Kabwe – Queens Academy and Nkwazi Queens battled to a goalless draw that was marred with complaints Saturday in a 2020/21 FAZ Women’s Super League Match Week 23 played at Jasmine Boys Secondary School Ground in Kabwe.

Both Queens and Nkwazi were going into this match coming from draws against National Assembly 1-1 and 0-0 respectively.

With the reverse fixture ending 2-0 in favor of Queens with goals courtesy of Agnes Phiri and Lillian Mwaba, it was always going to be a cagey affair as Nkwazi were aiming to revenge that loss but they had to fight with their lungs out playing against Queens at their own backyard.

Several key players from Queens and some from Nkwazi were missing from this match as they are in camp with the Zambia Under-17 and Under-20 who are preparing for the Zone 5 games and FIFA World Cup Qualifiers coming up this monthend.

It was a game of two halves both sides had their own equal share of scoring opportunities but Nkwazi had better chances which they failed to utilize thanks to Goalkeeper Theresa Banda for coming to the aid of the home side.

However, there was late drama just before the 90th minute mark as Nkwazi were denied a clear goal direct from a corner kick taken by Ngosa Musonda which was adjudged to have been an offiside something that angered the Nkwazi technical bench as they felt it was daylight robbery disallowing them a clear goal.

Nkwazi have since appealed over this matter and will soon lodge an official complaint to the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) and hear the outcome from the Disciplinary Committee accompanied with an evidence video footage for the denied goal.

After all was done and dusted, the match ended 0-0 and it’s back to the drawing board for both teams ahead of their upcoming assignments.

No movements on the log standing after yesterday’s game as Nkwazi still occupying 8th position with 29 points while Queens are 9th with 25 points from 23 games played apiece.

Queens’ next match is against Police Dove Queens while Nkwazi will host Bauleni United Sports Academy (BUSA) Queens in Lusaka.
