Chipolopolo Boys winger Chipyoka Songa has set his sights on improving on his debut season in the Israeli Premier League.
In an exclusive interview with the ZamFoot Crew, the Hapoel Petah Tikva player said he wants to pick up where he left off last season when the 2026/2027 campaign comes around.
After helping Hapoel Petah Tikva win promotion to the Israeli Premier League Songa netted eight goals in all competitions with three assists before a head injury ended his season prematurely missing out on the final 10 games due to a concussion protocol.
“It was exciting to score eight goals in the Premier League just coming from the second Division, it was really motivating. I don’t know how it would have been if I did not get that head injury. I was impressed with how I played in the previous season now, just looking forward to how the next season will be,ā Songa told the ZamFoot Crew.
“My target for next season is just to do more than I did last season. Let me just say pick up from where I ended last season,ā he added.
Songa says the Israeli Premier League is very competitive with every game being like a final as even the āsmall teamsā give the traditional big teams a good run when they face off.
“The level of competition in Israel is very high and it’s crazy how every team wants to win whether it’s a small team playing a small team. The level is just so high, there are teams playing in the Champions League, Conference League so you expect it to be high because they are competing to go back to European football,ā he said.
Songa was one of the exciting young players in the Israeli Premier League last season helping Hapoel Petah Tikva finish in the top half of the table.
The League was won by Compatriot Klings Kangwa and his Hapoel Be’er Sheva teammates after an exciting season.
