Zambian forward Evans Kangwa has announced he will retire from active football at the end of the 2025/26 MTN Super League season, drawing the curtain on a career that has taken him across three continents and seen him proudly represent his country on the international stage.
Kangwa confirmed the decision in an emotional statement shared on social media, revealing that June 2026 will mark his final chapter as a professional.
“As I write to you, my heart is filled with both gratitude and emotion. After many years of dedication, sacrifice, joy, and unforgettable experiences in the beautiful game, I have made the decision that in June 2026 I will officially retire from active football,” he wrote.
“Football has given me far more than I could ever have imagined — from brotherhood, life lessons, challenges, victories, and memories that I will carry with me forever. Among the most cherished of those are the moments we shared on the pitch, wearing the same colours, fighting for the same badge, celebrating victories, and overcoming difficult moments together.”
To commemorate the milestone, Kangwa will organise a farewell match bringing together former and current teammates.
“Your presence will not simply be a formality; it will serve as a lasting reminder of the bonds we built, the battles we fought side by side, and the brotherhood that football created between us. Above all, thank you for everything. It has truly been an honor. Hope to see you at the match.”
Chipolopolo journey
Beyond his club travels, Kangwa’s story is inseparable from the national team. He made his senior debut for Zambia national football team — Chipolopolo — in 2011, beginning an international career that would span more than a decade.
He was part of Zambia’s Africa Cup of Nations squad during his time with the national team, gaining invaluable tournament experience, although he did not feature in any matches at the finals.
In total, Kangwa earned 27 caps for Chipolopolo, scoring twice. His final appearance came on 11 June 2024 in a narrow 1-0 defeat to Tanzania national football team, a result that quietly marked the end of his international journey.
While he may not have always been a regular starter, Kangwa remained a committed servant of the national cause — part of a generation that carried Zambia’s colours with pride during a transitional era.
A career across continents
Kangwa first left Nkana FC in 2014 to join Israeli side Hapoel Ra’anana on loan. After scoring 11 goals in his debut season, he secured a permanent move in 2016 — reportedly valued at just over USD150,000 — before signing a three-year deal.
His European journey continued with spells at Gaziantepspor in Turkey and FC Arsenal Tula in Russia.

In 2023, he moved to Asia with Qingdao Hainiu, before a stint in Saudi Arabia with Abha Club.
He returned home in September 2025 for a second spell at Nkana, eleven years after first departing, but left four months later. In January 2026, he joined Green Eagles FC, where he is set to see out the final months of his playing career.
When the final whistle sounds in June 2026, it will mark the end of a professional journey defined by courage, adaptability and service — to club and country alike. For Kangwa, it has, in his own words, “truly been an honor.”
