Red Arrows head to Mauritius with two-goal advantage

Red Arrows have travelled to Mauritius ahead of Sunday’s CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round second leg against FC Rouge, taking a 2-0 advantage from the first meeting in Zambia.

The Airmen departed Kenneth Kaunda International Airport on Friday morning on a South African Airways flight at 06:42 local time and are expected to arrive in Mauritius at around 16:00 Zambian time.

Despite their healthy advantage, coach Chisi Mbewe has urged his players to remain focused and make better use of their chances as they look to complete the job.

“We are going to Mauritius carrying a two-nil lead. Our opponents are also preparing, so the most important thing for us is to be cautious,” Mbewe said.

“We need to make sure that we utilise the chances we create so that we can get the job done.”

Red Arrows scored twice in the first leg in Zambia and will now look to avoid any early setback that could give FC Rouge hope of overturning the deficit.

Director of Sport Col Maureen Sililo, who is accompanying the team, has also warned against complacency.

“We should not be complacent. We should not be satisfied with the two goals that we are going with,” she said.

“We should treat it as a new game altogether and win outright.”

Sililo said the Zambia Air Force Command had provided the team with the necessary support ahead of the trip and now expects the players and technical bench to deliver.

“Command has expressed nothing but are looking forward to a positive result. They have supported us with everything, so it is up to us now to record a success on this assignment,” she said.

Red Arrows will be aiming to protect their advantage in Mauritius and secure their place in the next round of the CAF Confederation Cup.
