Cosafa U17: Zambia ease into final with win over Angola

Zambia Under 17 National Team has eliminated the defending Champions Angola via a 2-nil scoreline in an Entertaining second Semi-final match played in front of an excellent Capacity Crowd at Mpira Stadium to book a place in Sunday’s Grand finale were they will meet Mozambique who earlier defeated a determined Eswatini side 1-nil courtesy of Simon Cipriano’s 10th minute goal to send him top of the tournament’s top scorers chart with 5 goals.

A Rickson Ng’ambi’s early goal in the second half and Moses Mulenga’s Stoppage time stunner was all that the Coach Osward Mutapa’s drilled side needed to overcome a stubborn Angolan side 2-nil.

Going into this match both gaffers had predicted a tough encounter and it left up to that expectation. It was a highly technical game which saw end to end action but the Junior Chipolopolo were more dangerous going forward and hit the crossbar through Rickson Ng’ambi’s header in the first half but the Angolan defenders managed to clear their lines

Moses Mulenga had an opportunity to put Zambia in the lead just at the nick of half time in a one on one challenge with Cristovoa Catungue in goal for Angola but his shot went wide off target.

After a barren first half, the Junior Chipolopolo came out guns blazing and before the Palanquinhas could organize themselves Rickson Ng’ambi stole the party putting Zambia in the lead with his 46th-minute goal assisted by Joseph Banda.

On the other hand, Angolan Striker Valdemiro Domingos who had a couple of chances and his second-half penalty appeal denied in the box after it came off Miguel Chaiwa’s hand but the referee waved play on.

Domingos was a threat in the Zambian half but nothing much to worry Iford Mwale in goal for The Junior Chipolopolo.

Just when everyone thought the game will end 1-nil, Moses Mulenga had other ideas and he made it 4 out of 4 games to his name has he added a 2nd goal of the day for Zambia in additional 90+5 minutes to completely kill off the match with a resounding 2-nil Victory with Dominic Kanda named as player of the Match.

The Junior Chipolopolo will now face the Young Mambas in the final on Sunday to determine who lifts the trophy.

  1. Well done to the young lads!! 18 Goals scored in 4 games and only 2 conceded. So lethal a strike force…. I hope we can keep building with these boys for the future.
