Copper Queens off to Angola ahead Wednesday’s showdown 

The Zambia Women’s National Team earlier today left for Luanda Angola ahead of Wednesday’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) second round, first leg qualifier against Angola.

The Copper Queens left around 15:45 from the ZAF Lusaka Air Force Base aboard a Zambia Air force flight. 

Coach Bruce Mwape has since named his final 23-member squad for the back-to-back games.

Skipper  Barbra Banda will lead the squad that also has Spain based lethal forward Racheal Kundananji, Racheal Nachula and Prisca Chilufya.

The locally-based striking trio of Fridah Kabwe, Charity Mubanga and Namasiku Lungowe has also made the travelling party. 

Midfield ace Evarine Susan Katongo has also made the cut alongside the female Computer, Ireen Lungu, Avell Chitundu and Hellen Chanda. 

The Copper Queens will face Angola in the first leg set for Wednesday, 29 November before hosting Angola at Levy Mwanawasa stadium in Ndola on 5 December 2023. 

Winner over two legs will qualify for the WAFCON to be held in Morocco in 2024.

  1. So we have not learned anything from the tragedy on 1993 and keep using these ZAF Planes? This is very irresponsible and we need to rethink this. We lost a whole national team to thieve planes and today we put the only team to ever play in a senior World Cup on such a mode of transportation. This isn unacceptable and needs to stop. Don’t endanger other people’s children because you want to be cheap. Treat these women with the same respect and dignity you afford the men.
