Copper Queens coach optimistic despite 10-2 aggregate against Japan

Zambia national Women’s national team coach Bruce Mwape believes his side will be ready for the World Cup in New Zealand/Australia later this year.

The Copper Queens had a poor outing in Asia after suffering defeats to Korea.

“We played well and contained them for like 25 minutes and we started making mistakes and conceded, mistakes such as the penalty conceded for the first goal can be avoided,” Mwape said after Tuesday’s 5-0 defeat against South Korea.

“We have a team that can play at the World Cup,” he added

“We have not come up with the final team, I’m sure those who are injured and those who are missing like Margaret Belemu will be available, Others will be dropped.

“It’s not everybody that will make the World Cup team looking at the way we are playing,” he stressed his point.

“Some of the players were not here because of injuries and other reasons but by the time for the World Cup they would have recovered and that will make a difference especially in defense.

Zambia lost 5-2 in the first match last week.

Zambia is in Group C alongside Spain, Japan and Costa Rica will be based in Hamilton where they will play two matches.

The Copper Queens will play Japan on July 22 and Costa Rica on July 31 against Japan and Costa Rica at Waikato Stadium.

  1. Bruce Mwape putting up a brave face despite being outplayed by the Koreans. That’s the problem with all our coaches; its either ” we played well but the pitch, or “we outplayed them but luck wasnt on our side” etc etc. Most of these so called coaches don’t believe others can be better than them. Our league is being handled by clueless chaps masquerading as trained coaches.
