The Zambia national team went a second consecutive game without scoring a goal when they were held to a goalless draw in an international friendly match against the scorpions of Gambia.
Chipolopolo coach George ‘Chicken’ Lwandamina made three changes to the team that lost 1 – 0 against Togo bringing in Kennedy Mweene, Chisamba Lungu and Salulani Phiri, but there was no place for skipper Rainford Kalaba and burly striker Collins Mbesuma.
Zambia went with an attacking three of Evans Kangwa, Christopher Katongo and Winstone Kalengo with the midfield anchored by a youthful duo of tough tackling Salulani Phiri and workaholic Paul Katema while tricky Chisamba Lungu was the more attacking midfielder.
Zambia struggled to keep the hosts at bay in the first half but held their own with Katongo looking lively in the opening exchanges.
Zambia upped their game in the second half and were unlucky not to score as they dominated the entire second half.
ZamFoot Crew correspondent, Modou Lamin Beyai, who watched the match at the independence stadium summarized the match as follows:
“It was good test for both Gambia and Zambia and a very good match for the visitors. The Chipolopolo dominated the entire second period.
Gambia were too playful and inexperienced. Good match overall!”
This was Zambia’s last practice match before they play Guinea Bissau on Saturday in a must win match.

cut the crap, if indeed “expertriat” coaches won games, South Africa, Morrocco or indeed Ghana would by now have won the world cup. These have time and again hired the best coaches in the world who we can only dream of, but what have they shown for all that? just modest performance. for South Africa, its only a token one Afcon trophy and a world cup appearance, for Morrocco, in more than 40 years, its just formality world cup appearances were they get knocked out in the first rounds, and Ghana have failed to win win the afcon since 1982 and serve for the inspired World cup appearance of 2010, they too have been quite pedestrian.
From all this, its clear coaches never made much difference, in the absence of high level of organisation, its actually the attitude and motivation of players that wins trphies. The Chipolopolo of 2012 did not have the best coach at the tournment but came back with the trophy to honour our fallen heroes in Gabon. The bafanabafana of 1996 only had the South African Clive Barker but dazzled Africa to lift the trophy in front of Mandela. an inspired Ghana, knowing that they were the sole african survivors at the 2010 world cup and against the odds of fielding a very young team almost shocked the world by going all the way. in all this, the buck stops at the players, are they inspired at the particular tournment?
England has all the money to hire any coach in the world and a high level organisation to have a good team, but when did they last win a major? Spain had not won anything in a long time until very recently, was it lack of a good coach?
