Rousing welcome for Chipolopolo as fans mob Janza

The Zambia national team has arrived back from Equatorial Guinea were they disappointingly fell out of the on-going Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

The team was received at the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport by Senior Government officials, National Sports Council of Zambia officials, FAZ officials.

Zambia bowed out of the 2015 Africa cup finals after recording two draws and one loss.

  1. Kalu’s cadres paid with corruption money went to lift this clown and clueless coach on their shoulders. Don’t get it twisted…Janza and Kalu have to go, and they will. Its just a matter of when.

  2. Thank you Kwame Nkruma, you are a nice and sincere man. God bless you too!!
Where is another blessed man- ROK? We miss you bro. You are very wise as well. We miss your profound comments

  3. One of the things we need in this country is to usher in visionary leadership at the helm of FAZ. Leadership that will revamp club football to among other things ensure properly run competion among team Bs of all super league teams.

We then need National Sports Council to put down its foot on FAZ activities to ensure tax payers’ money is not taken for granted by way of having secret and unscrupulous appointments when it comes to the technical bench. For all intents and purposes Zambians deserve way better than what they’re getting right now in terms of having our beloved national team being publicly ridiculed as a result of poor preparations before vital tournaments, incredibly poor travel arrangements and alarmingly mediocre perfomances by players with neither grit nor heart to play for the jersey.
Zambia is bigger and more important than certain individuals who have clearly outlived not only their usefulness, but also their welcome in so far as running the game is concerned.

  4. Thanks Paddy! We really need such kind of inputs at this time. It is time to do everything in transparent manner in the FAZ management. Currently one of the things we need is to find the way we can hold the FAZ administration accountable for any poor outing or how they manage “thin resources” at their disposal. For example-Kalu has been in his comfort zone for so long. He knows that he will do anything he wants without any consequences on him. He will pick any one he wishes to come and coach the national team. He has really taken Zambians for ride. He does not worry about any thing. It is like he owns the national team. it is really sad and painful!
He should be held accountable for the death of a primary school teacher who died after chipolopolo lost to Tunisia. I wonder if he even knows about this.Actully, I am not blaming Janza at all for his poor performance at AFCON. It is all Kalusha Bwalya’s faulty!!!He should explain to the nation what has caused the failures we are experiencing in Zambian football.

  5. Remember what Father Frank Bwalya once called our late president Sata?CHUMBU MUSHOLOLWA.that is exactly what the FAZ CHIEF IS.

  6. Janza failed the nation with that poor team selection. We had no solid central midfielder and leaving kola out was a grave error. Kola and Mayuka would have done better together

  7. A celebration of mediocrity by mediocre people. There’s no hope for this country with this shameful behaviour. Can you lift your child shoulder high after learning that he or she has failed an exam? Shocking!

  8. Janza’s biggest mistake was heeding to a song entitled”Tired legs” done by a choir called facebook association of takataka football pundits.A group of ungrateful fans who thought anything written 2012 AFCON was a curse rather than an achievement.A group of unforgiving fans whose hatred for players like Chris Katongo and his coach HR took such personal vigour that it became a symbol of sports platforms. We are now back to a place where we were 20 years ago,the nearly men of african football with players playing with their legs detached from their brains.

  9. The 2012 honeymoon is over, probably We are now facing divorce. The football philosophy of the country is dead. We are at the crossroads now. with the U17,U20 and U23 showing great possibility of qualifying to U17,U20 world cups and Olympics respectively.Zambia requires an experienced and knowledgeable coach who can understand and introduce a football philosophy suitable to the strength of Zambian players. THIS WOULD IN TURN form the new base of our football which the new players likely to come from U17,U20 and U23 to fit in and make ZAMBIA GREAT AGAIN.Currently We have no foundation.WITH JANZA WE WILL BE BUILDING OUR TEAM ON SAND SOIL INSTEAD OF SOLID ROCK.

    • Thanks Frank Nonde, that is great comment. The honeymoon was over two years ago. We should wake up and not live in denial believing that we are one of the best in Africa.

  10. Frank, Stephen and Paddy, Well said. Kalu needs to go and everything will start to work well with our football, by the way we need to put qualified people at FAZ not another corrupt, self imposed messiah ding dong like Kalu.

    • TC Soccerman, just like you had said before, this Kalu guy thinks he is untouchable or self imposed messiah. I can tell you one thing. His days in the FAZ office are numbered. He will dent all his reputation he has for so long. he should learn from other successful soccer administrators in this world.

      • They say “mwana osamvela anaenda na tuvi kunyumba right?” I sent a twit to Kalu and advised him to step down because he was corrupt and has done a shady job and that he was an embarrassment to his legacy. What was the response? He blocked me and unfollowed me because that’s what cowards do. Great leaders take criticism and learn from them, but Kalu? nah he knows it all. I agree he’s days are numbered. We are taking the remote control away from him. He won’t use it run FAZ anymore.

  11. Whoever orchestrated this parade for Janza must be investigated, how can they embarrass the country in such a way? JANZA deserved s whipping for taking us for a ride, let me however differ with the guy who said Kalu must be held responsible for a teacher who died because of Chipolopolo’s loss to Tunisia, how sure are you that it was the only reason that led to his death and what proof do you have, when Zambia won the Afcon, some people died as well because of too much excitement so who’s to blame for that one?

    • Duncandinho,I get you on the death of the teacher I take it back it was not ” our self imposed messiah’s” fault. However, It sill strongly blame Kalu for the first round elimination at the 2015 AFCON. He remotely controls the team.He should explain to the nation-why??

    • However, I would like to tell you that it is not fair to blame Janza for the failures. Janza was just doing what he was told to do.He even made it clear that Kalu did want Kola so he could not chose him.

  12. Its high time we got ride of the football cancer in Zambia, KALU and co should vacate football house, they have had their days but i think its now time we moved on by bringing people who have a heart for Zambian football. All Kalu and co have for our football is a stomach, they don’t think beyond their bellies. These guys have overstayed running our football and now they think they are untouchable. It is only here in Zambia where a person is hand picked to run a big thing like the National team, its very shocking in this day and age to see such a thing. Its time we showed Kalu and his friends at football house the door and tell them “Adios Amigos”

    • That’s true Morgy, but the questions is how do we move forward from here. Who there in Zambia is capable of get it done, and how can we as bloggers help to fulfil our agenda which is simple, have a new leader that will not be corrupt and will lead FAZ to success?

  13. Celebrating first round exit without a win GEE!This is what led to most Zambian soccer fans opting to watch English premier league at home and in bars, resulting in empty stands for our local football. come on We can do better than that.

  14. Before we rush to condemn and rubbish pipo we better look at things critically and look back at what resources FAZ has. Some are saying FAZ should fire Janza and find a better coach. Question is why did the other young muzungu coach Patrice run away from Zambia? Simple he was not getting paid, is Zambia capable enough to employ a top notch coach to come and work for the national team. FAZ are in a tight corner here, i dont know if Janza is being paid handsomely by Zambian standards. As for Kalu yes his time might be over but let due process of removing him be followed, football is funny becoz FIFA itself cannot put limits on leadership what more its affiliates. How long has Step and Hayatou been leading football in FIFA and CAF? Unfortunately government cannot interfere because its beyond their powers. Dont just shout Ponga for FAZ president, but let Ponga put up a good fight to unsit Kalu just like what Andrew Kamanga did the last time, but if Ponga just sits and thinks the hot seat will come on a silver platter he and his supporters here better think twice. Kamanga put a very good fight and he started way long campaining where is Ponga? Is Ponga interested in putting up the fight? If Ponga is not interested then who? Is it the arm chair critics on Zamfoot? We might talk and talk but i dont see any candidate worthwhile to challenge Kalu. Mind you Kalu wants that seat also becuase thats his gate way to CAF and FIFA. SO WHO IS CAPABLE TO CHALLENGE KALUSHA?

    • There is no candiate you can see because Kalu has shutup all football adminstrators for his own voice for the past 7 years. That is flipside of Kalu’s dont question practise. Its time others move into football house for the good and future of Zambian football.

    • Very well said brother Brave. I am not a fan of FAZ admin, but I think you bring up two very good points;

      1. The resources to hire a top notch coach might not be there. We are yet to settle accounts with Bonetti and we were unable to pay Patrice, at least that’s according to him. Though I still stand by the idea that whoever is hired even a Zambian should be given a real contract.

      2. No real opposition for Kalu; I agree that no one has come forward with any true pedigree or real campaign strategy. Kamanga may have had good ideas, but his execution was completely off. Hanif has been brought up, but he has not put up any real campaign. Kalu has built a strong inner circle to hold on to power, and rather than the Kamanga backdoor tactics, someone needs to try and beat him clean

  15. Kalu must just get us a good coach and stop interfering in team selection, Janza should have stood his ground and tell Kalu to back off and let him do things his own way but he couldn’t, so he has to pay the price.

  16. Qualifiers for 2017 will be starting soon. The post of national team coach must be advertised ASAP! New coach will need ample time to know his players. One of the things Afcon 2015 has exposed is that we lack quality players in our team. The new coach should be have the freedom to try out any player he deems is worth the salt – local or pro, experienced or new blood. He is not paid to be told which players he must select; he’s paid to perform.

If I was Janza at the airport I would’ve swallowed hard, express my uttermost disappoint at the poor showing of the team, and make a very quick exit. Fans welcoming the team is a sign of loyalty and love (this must be commended), but making the coach a hero by singing and lifting him, in the light of our diabolical outing, is most disturbing. It is a shameless public show of our approval for failure and defeat.

  17. @Brave Nchanga Rangers you’ve raised some good points there but can I ask if Patrice left the Job purely because he wasn’t get paid? Could it be that he all along he’d wanted to work with HR and when the chance came he “diplomatically” used the lack of payment as an escape route? Smart move if you ask me. By the way the only reason he wasn’t with HR in France was because the club blocked the move.

On Kalu, again you’re right procedure has to be followed. We can’t force him out but we can put measures in place as govt, sports council and all concerned stakeholders to ensure there’s accountability and transparency at football house. Only in Zambia do you have someone from nowhere joining the national team technical bench a day before tournament starts. Gentlemen this ain’t FIFA football this is a national team representing millions.

  18. Justice Lukanga Kafusha, my big bro please tune down. I used to enjoy reading your mature comments but how can u change like that? Rok, Positive thinking, Kez Kez, Kwame Nkhruma, Ghanaboy, etc, have more educative and inspiring comments, now Mr Justice u are no longer inspiring like u used to be. @ Paradox, I forgot to mention u, please advise our big bro Justice to refrain from vulga language coz thats not Zambian but Guinea’s opponent in 1/4 finals.

  19. The way it works in football is this: The outgoing appoints his puppet or comrade, if Kalu goes his buddy George will take over. I cant wait for Ivory Coast to win the cup, so that John can shut up once and for all.

  20. FROM TIMES OF ZAMBIA

RUSSIAN-BASED midfielder, Chisamba Lungu says there is no need for the Chipolopolo to continue crying over ‘spilt milk’ but should instead focus on working hard fo future assignments.
The Chipolopolo were ejected from the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals on Monday in Ebebiyin, Equatorial Guinea after finishing bottom of Group B following two draws and a loss, allowing Tunisia and DR Congo to reach the quarter-finals.
Chisamba said in an interview that while it was saddening to leave the AFCON just after playing three games, there was need to continue working hard ahead of the upcoming assignments.
He said while there was still a lot of work to be done, he has backed the current squad to sparkle in future.

With the AFCON done, Chisamba said he would now concentrate on working hard at his Russian club, Ural when the league opens in two months.
Delegation leader Happie Munkondya said Zambia’s first round exit from the ongoing tournament has left the Chipolopolo players with bruised hearts.
Munkondya said the early ejection had hurt the players as they had high expectations before the tournament. He said the Chipolopolo failed to perform to expectations of Zambians and disappointed their millions of fans.
The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) committee member said despite the elimination from the tournament, the players had remained united and that there was no blame-game in the squad.
He saluted skipper Rainford Kalaba for the leadership he displayed as he managed to unite everybody.
“We’ve been eliminated yes and we know it’s a disappointment to the fans. We’ve got a large following back home and all the fans expected us to live to their expectations. Unfortunately, we didn’t perform as per our expectations like I have said.
But one thing for sure which is very good is the team spirit exhibited by the players. Despite elimination which has bruised every player’s heart, the players remain united,” he said.
Munkondya praised the leadership displayed by Kalaba saying there was no finger-pointing in the team as everyone accepted that the team has been eliminated and it is water under the bridge.
“We created chances but we did not utilise them and that’s how we got it wrong. The team came with a lot of young players, if you look at the composition of the team we have about nine or so players who played in the last AFCON and the rest out of the 23 are all new.
We should not lose heart. We believe in these boys, they will come round. They will fly the Zambia flag high,” he said.

  21. @mumbi,guinea’s opponent in 1/4 stage is the winner of e.guinea vs tunisia only if they manage to qualify by surpassing ghana in the 1/8 stage.

  22. And by the way i see a lot of wrath directed at FAZ on this but in the TV footage the officials being shown are ministry and NSCZ officials. What is there to celebrate about? Celebrate mediocre results? My foot. The least Zambia would be expected is to reach the Semifinals. Their is no round of 16 and so getting out of the group should not be a standard for us. For heavens sake we are former champions barely 3 years ago!

  23. Zamfoot, where are the pictures of this rousing welcome not that one showing Pastor Peter Makembo only. Some of us are far from home and a fitting picture in line with your headline would do. Thank you.

  24. Are zambians Abroad welcome to lead FAZ. I have done sports Management and business Administration so i think i can do a better job running FAZ.

  25. the whole scene of paid fans lifting the so called Janza is pissing me off. I have been quiet expecting to hear about the sacking of janza but up to now nothing has developed. Who has the power to remove the pathetic Kalu from that office ? He is now a burden to our football development.

  26. Pastor Makembo and his group are a very good example of what it is to be a true fan. I don’t think they are celebrating the results in as much as they are celebrating the players and the coaches for having given what they could. Look at Dortmund fans; their team is in the relegation zone and yet they show up in droves to support the coach and the players every week. Lets not be too critical of these fans. Zambia has a new mission

    1. Qualify the U17 and U20 for their respective world cups
    2. Qualify for 2017 AFCON
    3. Win our first AFCON game since 2012 — 2017 will be 5 years
    4. Make the AFCON knockout stages in 2017. This one really matters because the exposure of the confederations cup would be amazing.
