CAF Games: Red Arrows record narrow win as ZESCO suffer shock defeat

Zambia’s representatives in the CAF Inter-clubs Competition started their campaign with mixed results as Red Arrows recorded a win while ZESCO United suffered a 1-0 defeat.

In the CAF Confederation Cup, The airmen recorded a 2-1 win at National Heroes Stadium.

After a slow start, the Airmen took the lead in the 27th minute as Felix Bulaya’s deflected shot beat Phumlani Ngobese in the Young Buffaloes goal.

Arrows could have doubled the lead on several occasions but they were sloppy in the final third with James Chamanga, Alassane Diarra, and Saddam Yussuf Phiri all coming close to scoring.

Bulaya doubled the lead in the 59th minute with a close-range finish, getting on the end of a Diarra pass.

Gamedze Sandile pulled one back in the 75th minute with a header but the Zambia Airforce sponsored outfit held on to win 2-1.

Arrows will be away in Eswatini for the second leg this coming weekend and should they get past this stage they will face Angolan outfit CD Primeiro de Agosto.

Elsewhere, A 66’ minute Solomon Sakala own goal condemned ZESCO United to a shock defeat in their CAF Champions League first preliminary round first leg encounter at the hands of Royal Leopards of Eswatini.

The wasteful Zambian Champions will be keen to turn the tables around when the two sides meet again for the second leg scheduled for the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Saturday.

  1. These are the same players kamanga thinks can play against the likes of Algeria, Tunisia etc..they have it hard against local swazi players what are they going to do against msakni etc

  2. Zambia style of football performance deteriorated. The problem is no much concentration on the field but in the press.
The defenders of today are far away to defend for their teams. They make silly mistakes which cost them a fortune.
I wish there were recorded matches played in the 90s by the players who perished, they were going to learn 1 or 2.
Falling to Swazi teams is a shame across the nation.
Hope they will not score own goals for their opponents & concede useless penalties at most.

  3. Ghana have just fired their local Coach Charles Akonnor after they lost to South Africa 1 nil. Egypt who are sitting on 4 points fired their Coach because the fail short drawing with Gabon.

Meanwhile Zambia lost 2-0 at home and we burring our heads in the sand when we know where the problem lies. Its 50 years and we can’t figure out how to get the W.C. Believe me Egypt and Ghana have a better chance of going through the next round. Until we serious forget the W.C its for serious teams not teams who play with COSAFA line ups or CHAN line up.
