A tense battle for survival takes centre stage in Lusaka on Wednesday as NAPSA Stars travel to face Nkwazi with both sides locked on 27 points and hovering just above the relegation line.
The stakes could scarcely be higher at Edwin Imboela Stadium, where kick-off is set for 15:00 CAT, with only goal difference separating the two teams in what is shaping up to be a defining encounter in their respective campaigns.
NAPSA Stars assistant coach Zeddy Saileti has urged his players to maintain composure and execute their game plan, insisting belief is growing within the squad following their recent upturn in form.
“Each and every game is very important and we’ve done our preparations and we are very motivated from our last win,” Saileti said. “The boys look sharp, the confidence is high, and we are looking forward to picking maximum points.”
NAPSA arrive buoyed by a narrow 1-0 victory over FC Leopards — a result that lifted them level with their hosts — while Nkwazi come into the match on the back of an identical 1-0 win against Mine United. The symmetry in recent results underlines just how finely balanced this contest is.
Saileti acknowledged the mounting pressure but believes his side has already shown the resilience required in such circumstances.
“Even last week it was the same pressure. We played Leopards with both teams on 24 points. Now it’s 27 apiece with Nkwazi. The pressure is there, but what matters is the planning and the application on the pitch from both the players and the technical bench.”
The reverse fixture earlier this season ended goalless, and history suggests another tight affair could be on the cards. In 23 previous meetings, NAPSA Stars hold a marginal advantage with 10 wins to Nkwazi’s six, while seven matches have ended in draws.
Saileti also made a direct appeal to the club’s supporters after their strong turnout in the previous fixture.
“We were happy with the fans last week. They came in numbers and supported the team throughout. We encourage them to come again and stand with the team.”
