Zambia Women’s national team right back Margaret Belemu is confident that the Copper Queens will carry the day against Namibia despite it being a well-organized side.
A win over Namibia will help the Copper Queens maintain the top spot in Group C at the ongoing COSAFA Women’s Championship in Nelson Mandela Bay and guarantee qualification to the next round.
“We could not use our opportunities to score but we played well as a team and managed to do so in the second half,” Belemu explained about the teams 5-0 win over Eswatini.
“Namibia has got a very good side and they are organized so we expect a tough game but I know that we will carry the day as a team because we talked about the mistakes in the game against Eswatini and hopefully we shall deliver a good result,” Belemu added.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Catherine Musonda was over the moon after a rare start between the sticks for the 2019 COSAFA Women’s Championship runners-up. Musonda went on to keep a clean sheet in the game.
The Indeni Roses goalminder has further asked the fans to keep supporting the team.
“I did not expect to start but I was happy to be in goal so that even those who play (Hazel Nali and Ng’ambo Muscle ) know that we can all be dependable, even when they are not around, I can take up the role,” she said.
“I was happy to keep a clean sheet. We worked hard as a team, I had a lot of confidence in the goal. Even in the game against Namibia, we need to work hard and not underrate any team.”
” To the fans just keep supporting us, Even us we will keep working hard,” she added.
The Copper Queens started their COSAFA Women’s Championship campaign with a resounding 5-0 win over Eswatini with Ochumba Oseke Lubanji stealing the show with a hat-trick.
The match against Namibia will kick off at 15:30hours on Sunday at the Madibaz Stadium. In the earlier kick-off, Uganda faces Eswatini with both sides looking for their first win of the tournament.
