Klings Kangwa Joins Greek Giants Panathinaikos FC

Chipolopolo midfielder Klings Kangwa has completed a move to Greek giants Panathinaikos FC, the club has confirmed.

The Zambia international will play his final match for Hapoel Be’er Sheva on Wednesday in the second leg of their UEFA Conference League qualifier against Icelandic side Vikingur Reykjavik.

Despite Be’er Sheva’s 2-1 aggregate deficit heading into the match, Kangwa found the back of the net in first leg, scoring his second goal in two games.

Confirming the transfer, Hapoel Be’er Sheva stated:

“The transfer of Kings Kangwa to Greek side Panathinaikos has been agreed. Kings will play in the rematch against Vikingur, after which he will travel to Greece for his medical examinations and to complete the signing.”

Kangwa is expected to sign a four-year contract with Panathinaikos, keeping him at the Athens-based club until June 2030. The deal is reportedly worth around €1 million per season.

Panathinaikos agreed a transfer package worth €4.5 million, consisting of a fixed fee of €3.8 million and a further €700,000 in performance-related bonuses.

The Greek giants had initially reached a personal agreement with Kangwa in May, but negotiations stalled before rivals AEK entered the race for his signature. Panathinaikos eventually revived the deal and secured the midfielder’s services.

The 27-year-old arrives in Greece after an outstanding campaign in Israel, where he was named the Israeli Premier League Player of the Season.

Kangwa registered 21 league goal contributions, scoring 12 goals and providing nine assists in one of the finest seasons of his career.
