Green Eagles Coach Perry Mutapa is not losing any sleep because of his strikers goal drought as he is happy with his team winning games even without goals from the strikers.
Speaking in a pre match interview, Mutapa said strikers not scoring was not a worry for him though he hoped they would find their goal scoring boots soon. Mutapa says he is happy with all their other contributions to the team.
Midfielder Collins Sikombe is the team’s top goalscorer with three goals while winger Amity Shamende has two goals to his name.
The Kawale Boys face an inform ZANACO side this afternoon in a week 10 encounter and Mutapa says his side has prepared well for the showdown.
“As long as we are winning, it’s not a worry. And I hope, like you have said, the strikers should start scoring. In terms of assisting and doing what they should do at the top, I think they have done that. The only thing which is remaining is to score goals. And we believe each game, the way it’s coming and the way we are creating chances, the goals will come,” he said.
“I think we are prepared for them and it’s going to be a very good game. ZANACO sitting on top so far, the team which he’s on form. I think one of the two teams which has never lost a single match, so it’s going to be a tough game,” he added.
The Bankers have only conceded 4 goals this season and only Power Dynamos who have played three games less have conceded less goals than them so far this season.
However Mutapa feels their first win at home when they beat Nkana 2-0 at home two weeks ago can push them to get another win as they want to build on that.
Eagles were not in action last weekend and Mutapa believes it has worked in their favor as they needed extra time to rest as they have used a consistent line up so far this season.
“It means their defence has been watertight and at home in the last two games we have scored in each game two goals so it sits well with us and we believe we are at home. Last weekend our first win so we just want to continue,” he said.
“For us, I think sometimes it works in our favour because we have used almost the same line-up so it’s good to have ample time to prepare and hopefully we are going to get the desired positive result.”
The goalkeeper Given Kambila kept his first clean sheet at home and Mutapa says is a big thing for him and will push him going forward.
“I think it’s huge for him as a goalkeeper, for the rest of the team and also the supporters because I think they’ll also be behind him, supporting him, which on the day of the game it gives you a big lift as a goalkeeper. So it’s very huge for the team,” he said.
“The sponsors are always there for us. They should just continue supporting us on the field of play. I think as a team, we should make sure we do the best and get a positive result tomorrow.”
