WSL: Women’s Super League returns, ZESCO visit Nkwazi looking to open four points lead, Buffaloes host Assembly as ZANACO battle Eagles

The Eden University Women’s Super League returns this weekend with exciting matches, log leaders ZESCO Ndola Girls are in Lusaka to face Nkwazi Queens while second placed Green Buffaloes host National Assembly.

One of the biggest games this weekend sees ZANACO Ladies welcome Green Eagles at Sunset Stadium while Red Arrows Women are away to stubborn YASA Queens.

At Edwin Imboela Stadium, ZESCO Ndola Girls will be looking to open a four points lead at the summit with a win against Nkwazi Queens.

Avell Chitundu is expected to lead the side as she looks to add to her tally of goals. Zegalicious lead the log with 21 points after eight games.

Coach William Zulu will be happy to have Eneless Phiri back in his fold after she missed the rescheduled game last weekend as she was on international duty with the Copper Queens.

Phiri will be facing her former employers Nkwazi Queens, a return to a familiar place, Edwin Imboela Stadium.

Nkwazi started the season well going five games without defeat but they have now suffered three straight losses.

However the likes of Zewelanji Nambeye and Stacey Gloria Mwelwa will hope to lead their side to their third win of the season but it will be tough ask against a side like ZESCO Ndola Girls.

At DK Stadium, Chipata Girls will be hoping to get their first win of the season when they welcome fellow strugglers, ZISD Women.

The match pits the bottom two placed sides, while Chipata Girls have only played six games, ZISD are winless in nine matches.

This could also be a chance for ZISD to get their first win and start turning things around especially with Tendai Sani back after the international break which saw Malawi qualify to the Africa Cup of Nations for the very first time.

At Nchanga Stadium, The Brave Nchanga Rangers Queens welcome Kamfinsa Police Blue Eagles.

Nchanga Rangers Queens have been blowing hot and cold this season and it’s difficult to know beforehand which Nchanga Rangers Queens side will turn up on the day.

After losing five of their opening seven games, Nchanga Rangers Queens have now won back to back games for the first time this season and will be looking to make it 3 wins in a row.

Kamfinsa Police Blue Eagles on the other hand ended their three match winless run just before the international break as they beat Amazing Grace, 2-1.

Kamfinsa Police Blue Eagles are expected to rely on the likes of Angela Galufu, Namakau Mwangala and Gift Kalwizhi in the absence of the amazing Mercy Chipasula.

Meanwhile Coach Charity Nthala has an array of star players to call upon like Lungowe Namasiku, Tricia Mabamba, Gracious Tailoshi, and Blessings Mapalo Maluba.

The action moves to Sunday as Green Buffaloes welcome National Assembly at Edwin Imboela Stadium in an early kick off.

After the disappointing draw against Trident Queens, Buffaloes will be eager to get back to winning ways.

Coach Charles Haalubono will look to players like Evarine Susan Katongo, Natasha ‘Little Tasha’ Nanyangwe, Maweta Chilenga and Agnes Phiri to lead the charge.

Assembly will be without a host of players including Naomi Mumba, Blessings Kazhila, Loveness Malunga and Lilian Mwaba who are all on loan from Green Buffaloes.

On paper it’s a straight win for Green Buffaloes but games rarely go according to the script and if they are to win they will have to sweat for it on the pitch.

Elsewhere, Luyando Foundation Girls will play host Indeni at Independence Stadium.

Luyando are winless in their last five games and face a side that has not lost any of their last three games.

At Reiz Arena, Elite Ladies will welcome Konkola Blades Queens as coach Enala Simbeye faces off against her former team.

The Elite Ladies have won three of their last five games while Konkola Blades Queens have won four in the last five games losing only to log leaders, ZESCO Ndola Girls.

It will be an interesting encounter with neither side wanting to get a loss in this match. Towera Nkhata also returns to face her former side.

Saliya Mwanza is expected to be vital for Elite Ladies alongside, Misozi Musonda, Phidah Muzuwa and Margaret Mulenga for the hosts.

In Kabwe, Amazing Grace welcome Trident Queens, both teams could do with a win at this point.

Elsewhere, stubborn YASA Queens welcome Red Arrows Women at Bank of Zambia Sports Complex.

The Mavis Nachinga coached YASA Queens side are not an easy team to face and are unbeaten in their last three games.

Red Arrows with Mary Mambwe on song and Mary Wilombe back from National duty will be looking to get maximum points but will have to dig deep to beat the Youthful side.

The biggest game of the weekend sees fourth placed Green Eagles visiting Sunset Stadium to face 6th placed ZANACO Ladies.

Both teams have only lost twice this season and it will interesting as coach Florence Mwila looks to out smart and outwit coach Albert Mphande and vice versa in a battle for tactical superiority.

Regina Chanda back from National duty will be key for ZANACO Ladies with Blessings Zangose Zulu and Inonge Muyamwa in the middle of the park.

Meanwhile Eagles bank on their striking duo of Theresa Chewe and Rachel Moono who have scored the lion share of their goals so far this season with Cindy Banda on the wing as Natasha Nkaka is expected to be out for at least this weekend after returning from the World Cup on Friday afternoon.

A win for Eagles could see them move up to second if Buffaloes and Arrows fail to record wins in their games.
