2017 Barclays Cup: Nyaende fires Zanaco into final

Felix Nyaende’s headed goal in the 27th minute was the difference as Zanaco booked their place in the 2017 Barclays Cup competition final following 1-0 win over Lusaka Dynamos in the second semi-final played at the Nkoloma Stadium on Saturday.

Nyaende’s lone goal not only earned Mumamba Numba’s side a final date against Napsa Stats, but meant that Zanaco reached their third final of the competition, having previously done so in 2010 and 2016.

On both occasions they had lost to Zesco United, who in this year’s competition were eliminated by their opponents in this year’s final and 2012 winners Napsa Stars.

Napsa Stars reached the final after they won 4-2 on penalties after a goalless draw in regulation time.

Alex Mwamba, Solomon Sakala, Austin Banda and Collins Sikombe were all clinical for Linos Makwaza’s side while it was Dickson Chapa who ballooned his effort.

For Zesco United, it was Jesse Were and David Owino who converted their spot kicks while Fackson Kapumbu and Maybin Kalengo who missed. Misheck Chaila who was the fifth player on the Zesco United list did not even get his chance.

The final has been tentatively scheduled for 28 October at a yet to be announced venue.
