Zesco United include Zanaco’s Kapumbu on CAF Cup squad list

Zesco United have released the list of players that will represent the club in the 2017 edition of the CAF Confederations Cup.

The 2016 league runners-up have maintained the core of the team that reached the semi finals of 2016 CAF Champions League and have bolstered it with some new signings which include Zanaco duo of Fackson Kapumbu and Dave Daka.

Zanaco who are representing Zambia in the CAF Champions League seem to have lost the battle to keep Kapumbu as the Ndola giants have submitted his name to CAF despite the former having done the same four days ago.

Other new acquisitions include defender Marcel Kalonda who last season played for Kabwe Warriors, and goalkeeper Bob Kasuwa who has signed from Lusaka Tigers.

Striker Idriss Mbombo who had been recalled by Kabwe Warriors after being on a season long loan at Zesco is also part of the team.

As was the case last season when U20 international was Shemmy Mayembe was promoted from the feeder teams to break into the champions league squad, Bwalya Chiti (Vic falls Developmental team) and Dumisani Mwanza (Malaiti Rangers) have made the squad.

Zesco have only released Ivory Coast international Ayo Oluwafemi whose contract was not renewed and Clatous Chama who has made a move to Egypt’s Al Ittihad.

  1. That’s how you improve your team. Shame that Zesco are stronger on paper than Zanaco despite being involved in the lower of the continental competitions.

  2. Zanaco should work on luring players like Kalengo back from Congo or even offer guys like Ngonga another chance to show their skill in Zed.

Zanaco has the money, but they seem to act like they don’t.
