The Zambia U-20 national team will this afternoon leave for Abuja, Nigeria for their three International friendly matches in West Africa.
The Young Copper Bullets proposed friendly matches against Nigeria were pushed to February after they failed to take off in January.
“The Under-20 leave for Abuja on Wednesday where they will play Nigeria before heading to Dakar for another engagement against Senegal. We had to adjust the initial dates for the friendly matches to enable our team to undergo CAF prescribed pre-tournament travel formalities in liaison with the Egyptian embassy in Lusaka. Once our team heads to West Africa, they will head straight to North Africa from their friendly assignments.
The under-20 tournament is important as it is a gateway to the FIFA World Cup to be hosted by Indonesia.” Read part of FAZ President Andrew Kamanga’s weekly update.
Zambia and Nigeria will face off on Friday and Monday in warm up matches ahead of the TotalEnergies Egypt 2023 U20 Africa Cup of Nations.
The under-20 squad will proceed to Dakar to face Senegal on 9th February, 2023 for another international friendly before flying to Egypt the next day.
The squad will fly directly to Alexandria from Dakar after playing their final friendly match.
Zambia will launch their 2023 AFCON title ambitions with a Group C match against Benin on 21st February before tackling Gambia at Alexandria stadium three days later.
They will wrap up their Group C engagement with a clash against north-Africans Tunisia on 27 February.
