Fashion Sakala named player of the match as Al Fayha edge Abha in five-goal thriller

Chipolopolo Boys forward Fashion Sakala was named Player of the Match after playing a key role in Al Fayha’s thrilling 3-2 victory over Abha in the Saudi Pro League on Friday.

Sakala was a constant threat throughout the contest and was directly involved in two of Al Fayha’s three goals as the hosts held off a late Abha fightback.

Lázaro put Al Fayha ahead in the 32nd minute before doubling the advantage shortly after half-time.

Sakala played a key role in the second goal, with his effort saved by Abha goalkeeper Donovan Léon before the ball struck the post and fell kindly for Lázaro, who finished from close range.

The Zambia international continued to cause problems for the Abha defence and came close on several occasions, forcing Léon into further saves as Al Fayha looked to extend their lead.

Abha reduced the deficit in the 84th minute through Alimami Gory, but Al Fayha restored their two-goal advantage three minutes later.

Sakala’s shot was turned into his own net by Abdou Diallo to make it 3-1.

Abha were handed a lifeline deep into stoppage time after a VAR review awarded a penalty for handball against Makhir Al Rashidi. Michy Batshuayi converted from the spot in the 94th minute.

Batshuayi nearly completed a remarkable comeback moments later, but his effort was saved by Al Fayha goalkeeper Orlando Mosquera as the hosts held on for victory.

Sakala’s performance was rewarded with the official Player of the Match award after a display that underlined his growing influence in Al Fayha’s attack.

The victory also handed Al Fayha their first league win of the season, while Sakala continues to build momentum as he looks to carry his club form into his next months’ assignments with Zambia.
