Zambia’s build-up to their next week’s Morocco 2025 African Cup of Nations suffered a setback after a 2–0 defeat to DR Congo in an international friendly played on Tuesday.
The Congolese side took the lead midway through the first half when Arthur Masuaku found space on the left and fired past the Zambian goalkeeper in the 21st minute, capitalising on a moment of defensive hesitation. Zambia attempted to respond by keeping possession and pushing higher up the pitch, but clear-cut chances were limited as DR Congo remained compact and disciplined.
After the break, the Chipolopolo showed more intent going forward, with improved ball circulation and pressing in midfield. However, their inability to convert half-chances proved costly. DR Congo doubled their advantage in the 68th minute through Rocky Bushiri, who rose highest to head home from a set piece, effectively sealing the contest.
Despite the loss, the friendly offered valuable minutes to several players as the technical bench assessed combinations and tactical options. Zambia continued to fight until the final whistle but could not find a way past a well-organised Congolese defence.
Zambia now turn their attention to their next friendly against Ivory Coast, scheduled for today, where they will be hoping for a stronger performance and a more clinical edge in the final third.
