Zambia pick up a vital win over Tanzania

A Fashion Sakala late strike earned Zambia a 1-0 victory over Tanzania in a FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifier on Wednesday in Zanzibar.

Zambia fianally managed a win in 2025 as they saw off the Taifa Stars at Amani Stadium in Zanzibar thanks to a late goal by Sakala.

The Copper Bullets went into the match desperate for a win to keep their slim hopes of making the CAF play off tournament for the four best second placed teams alive.

Avram Grant’s men controlled the match from the onset but could not break a resolute Tanzania side until late in the second half.

Kabaso Chongo started the move before sending Lubambo Musonda on his way who did well with a side foot brilliant low cross to Sakala who timed his run perfectly to slot home from close range.

The win sees Zambia move to 9 points while Tanzania remain stuck on 10 points. Niger is second with 12 points and Morocco on 21 points as group leaders.

Zambia have a chance to go second on Sunday when they welcome Niger at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.

  1. I am not a soccer fanatic. However I follow football mainly encouraged by the techniques a coach employs to win matches.
Nothing has impressed me from Avram Grant.
