Women’s League: Green Buffaloes edge YASA on post match penalties to win league title

Full-Time Scores From Sunset Stadium,

Green Buffaloes WFC 0-0 YASA Queens (Buffaloes won 3-2 via penalties)

Green Buffaloes Women Football Club were on Saturday crowned as the Champions of the 2021/22 FAZ Women’s National League season after defeating YASA Queens 3-2 via penalty shootout after both teams played to a goalless draw during regulation time.

Buffaloes who were winners in Zone A were going into this match as firm favorites but coming up against Zone B winners YASA Queens was not going to be a walk in the park for Buffaloes and it really showed throughout the match despite the Zambia Army sponsored side dominating play.

It was a tough day for the Stubborn YASA who put up an good fight but were not sharp in front of goal.

Buffaloes on the other hand could have blamed themselves had they lost because they had a lot of chances but failed to bury any of them and YASA goalkeeper Anna Mukumbuta put up a splendid performance with some great saves.

However, after all was done and dusted, the two teams were level at 0-0 and the match had to be decided on penalties.

Buffaloes converted three of their spot kicks through Anita Mulenga, Judith Zulu and Lushomo Mweemba where as Joana Benaya and Hellen Chanda missed their kicks.

On the other hand, YASA only managed to score through Eunice Bwalya and Florence Kasonde while Melissa Mataba, Christine Nyirongo and Judith Soko failed to convert their spot kicks as Buffaloes won 3-2 sending their fans in wild celebration.

This victory by Buffaloes ensured they successfully defended the championship they won last season at the same venue and coincidentally their last game was against YASA whom they beat 2-nil.
