Zambian Legendary goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene added an silverware to his already rich trophy cabinet on Saturday.
Mweene put in an impressive full 120 minutes shift for Mamelodi Sundowns who where crowned Nedbank Cup champions for the 2021/2022 season after defeating Marumo Gallants 2-1 in extra-time.
The Brazilians started off strong with Gaston Sirino testing the Gallants goal minder Washington Arubi early on. Sirino had the ball in the net after 20 minutes but an infringement in the build up meant the goal was disallowed.
However Man of the moment, Peter Shululile could not be denied in the 33rd minute as he pounced onto a loose ball and slotted into the far corner after Arubi’s error.
Gallants pushed for an equalizer and finally managed in the last fifteen minutes after Dion popped up unchecked in the box and headed in from close-range beating Mweene.
After an even first period of extra-time, Gallants were reduced to ten players as Ndlondlo got a red card for a second bookable offence whilst Sundowns pushed for the second.
The winning goal came in the final minute of extra time after Thapelo Morena combined with Themba Zwane to slot into the bottom corner and fire the Brazilians to the Nedbank Cup and a domestic treble.
Mweene and his teammates where recently-crowned DStv Premiership champions and have now added the Nedbank to their MTN8 trophy won earlier this season.
