The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) held its elective annual general meeting on 27, February 2021 at Fairmount hotel in Livingstone that saw the ascendancy of Justin Mumba and Colonel Priscilla KATOBA to the country’s football mother body as Vice President and women’s representative — respectively.
The duo joins, FAZ President Andrew Kamanga and other ten executive committee members from ten provinces.
Former Zesco United Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Justin Mumba marshaled 55 votes against his closest rival Gideon Mwenya who garnered 31 votes.
Green Buffaloes Women’s football club President Col Priscilla Katoba emerged winner on the National Women’s representative race with a landslide victory; amassing 67 votes against the incumbent Brenda Kunda’s 7 points.
The duo goes to the football house on the backdrop of successful football administration careers.
It was under the leadership of Justin MUMBA that Zesco United became a powerhouse in African football and bestrode the Zambia Superleague.
Green Buffaloes Women football club is a dominant force in women’s football under the presidency of Col Priscilla KATOBA.
Thus, FAZ councilors voted the duo on merit. A great addition to the local football’s governing body.
If translated to football house; their winning mentality, passion, professional conduct, and dedication; our football will be resuscitated from the deathbed.
KATOBA’S LANDSLIDE VICTORY
67 votes for Col Priscilla KATOBA against 7 votes for Brenda Kunda in the Women’s national representative race, clearly showed that councilors wanted a change in women’s football.
Brenda Kunda laid down the marker under her tenure, but this time councilors wanted someone with a track record in women’s football administration.
MUMBA WAS FAVOURITE
The name Gideon Mwenya should be at the football house; even as an executive committee member. But he stood against the strong candidature of Justin MUMBA.
On any post, including the presidency, the former Zesco United Chief Mumba could have posed a threat to anyone.
