On Saturday afternoon, ZSL log leaders Zanaco were held at home to a 1 – 1 draw by the Kawale Boys, Green Eagles.
Addressing the press after the game, Zanaco Coach Chris Kaunda expressed his disappointment with the result.
“It was a very difficult game. It was so difficult to play. We gave them a goal,“ he bemoaned.
When asked if anything was lacking following a stronger second showing, he praised his teams’ efforts and attributed the draw to misfortune.
“It wasn’t our day. They (Zanaco players) played well. All the players did what we wanted them to do. But it wasn’t our day,” the visibly disappointed Coach Kaunda said.
As the result, Coach Kaunda expressed his displeasure with the draw.
“I can’t be happy with a draw. It’s a loss. Two points down,“ he lamented.
Regarding fears that this result puts pressure on Zanaco’s title ambitions, Coach Kaunda was quick to arrest such fears.
“Not really. We just have to forget about it and stay focused. Because we won’t play them this season. We will probably play them next season. But for now, we just have to stay focused on the next game.”
On expectations going into the next game against Nkwazi, Coach Kaunda expressed optimism that his boys will bounce back from this setback.
“It’s a good derby. Especially that we will be away. It will be an interesting game. The boys will do the job. They know what is expected of them,“ he said confidently.
Following the result, Zanaco maintains its position at the summit of the League table. However, they will be wary of the threat posed by second-placed ZESCO United, who have played 2 games fewer and are lurking just 2 points behind Zanaco. Third-placed Lusaka Dynamos are not so far off either, as they lie 3 points behind Zanaco. This promises to be an interesting title race indeed!
