Sunzu to miss AFCON qualifier as Chipolopolo win practice match

Stopilla Sunzu will not be part of the Chipolopolo team that will play Guinea Bissau in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier this weekend after the China based defender injured himself in training today.

Sunzu limped off during the training session in the morning in Kitwe after he was caught by fellow defender Kapota Kayawe on the knee.

He watched from the stands as he team mates beat Ndola United 3 – 2 in a training match played an the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

The defence kingpin received his clutches during the practice match at Levy Stadium.

On the pitch, George Lwandamina gave a hint of what system he would prefer as he lined-up his lads in a traditional 4 4 2 formation. The team which played the first of the two games struggled against a well coordinated and talented Ndola United club which plays in Division one.

Bornwell Mwape opened the scores for the Chipolopolo before United capitalized on defence lapses to score twice.

Patson Daka who replaced Ronald ‘Sate Sate’ Kampamba leveled the scores for the first game to end 2 – 2.

Team A: K Mweene (D Munyao) – D Malama, E Mbola, D Nkausu, K Kayawe (K Mtonga) – P Katema, C Lungu, F Tembo, R Kalaba – R Kampamba (P Daka), B Mwape

Coach George Lwandamina then unleashed a changed squad for the second phase of the practice match which saw the Chipolopolo score the third goal through Bornwell Mwape as he completed his brace.

Team B: D Munyao – K Chongo, F Kapumbu, C Munthali, A Katebe – N Sinkala, M Mulenga – A Mukuka, L Musonda – G Singuluma, E Mayuka.

With “Chicken” only completing his second day with the team, it far from clear how the Chipolopolo will line-up on Saturday.

  1. Too bad ba Sunzu i think this is the rebuilding Janza was yapping about we need credible replacements ama injuries ba Sunzu yachilamo.

    • -achenesha Sunzu. Joke!I guess its all about who can read the game better. This man has been to the world cup. He should be ripe for this job. Go George. Fans should not come with outrageous demands the country has many projects that are very very important to and can influence even the formation of a NFL in the next 5-10yrs blah blah blah…People should make objective decisions and not listen to who screems the loudest. But somebody can you donate some footballs and nets to all the schools at once.

  2. Too bad Sunzu. You gave us AFCON with a fine final penalty. Chicken its time to read the game. Your world cup experience summoned here, give us a good game sir!

  3. 1 mweene 2 kabaso chongo 3 mbola 4 katebe 5 munthali 6 sinkala 7 chisamba 8 kalaba 9 mayuka 10 Evans kangwa 11 lubambo

    • Evans has a knock but he looked good enough to play as he warmed up with the other players and wasn’t limping in his stride.

  4. @ Tony good line up, bad for Sunzu but its part of the game let’s hope Katebe will prove himself. Sometimes injuries give chances to other players let’s hope Sunzu ‘s injury is not very serious. Watch Zambia on SS9 live 14.50 kick off 15hrs.

  5. @ ba Zamfoot, which goalie conceded the two goals? This squad has a lot of talented midfielders, if u were the coach, which ones of the following midfielders would u start with: Fwayo Tembo, Chisamba Lungu, Lubambo Musonda, Allan Mukuka, Mukuka Mulenga and Rainford Kalaba?

  6. I think the point is how did they concede a goal,it could be our defenders were caught sleeping or goal keeping problem. On the selection let’s first sort out the kind of play Chicken wants then we can see who could adapt to the system. We don’t want’ ICI Pante Pante’

    • It was a practice game I should mention.

One of the goals was just a break down in midfield…. edge of the box, United capitalised quickly with defence out of position, quick interchange into the box… bang! and it was past an advancing Mweene.

  7. Mweene shud not start this game, the man has grown big headed, he has costed the country more than he has served it, especially during WC qualifiers and tounaments

  8. Still cannot find Paradox expressing his opinion, if He has any. Numb on ideas, rich in negativity. The poor lad is wallowing in misery as his cup is full. Brother Paradox, share your ideas now or it will be too late after the Guinea game. Team up with Mumbi & brainstorm if the two of u may come up with some elementary or kindergarten suggestions.
