Fighton Simukonda (Zambia U23 coach) –
“After losing to Tunisia, we have to go back to the drawing board and make sure that we win the two remaining games in order to stay in contention,”
“We could have also carried the day. The game was 50-50 but Tunisia used their last chance and they scored.
“We had about two or three chances which we missed. That is part of the game.
“In football, you miss some and you convert some but we regret that we have lost the game. We had chances to score but at the end of day Tunisia were lucky and they scored,” he said.

Hope Lubambo makes it…. He is the best replacement for injured Ngoma
In life u only reap what u sow.Zambia did not prepare adequately for this tournament !
One game at a time, so focus on the SAfrican match, we tired of always going back to the drawing board
We shall thrash both rsa and senegal.
Had luck guys there is still a chance to make it.
the most abused word in zambian football ‘Drawing Board’
Zambia has failed to beat Arabs because of poor coaches who can’t read the game and can’t select the right players. If zambia is drawn with any Arab team in the world cup we will not survive. Especially with the corrupt selection of players.
Simukonda has lost his pedigree. evidence is there at nchanga. he blames referees just like BA Patrick.
First start with assembling your “drawing board” I dont see no drawing board to go back to, not to mention a better strategy for the remaining games. Though I agree the game was a 50 – 50 from my perspective, our team played fairly well.
The game was not 50-50 zambia was totally outplayed. Do not comfort yourself. From the first to the last whistle zambia was outplayed. We even conceded a goal which was lucky ruled offside.
True
You dont have to be an expert to see that the Tunisians where taller, tactically superior and more comfortable on the ball. Our team needs to have some self belief and stop leaking crosses especialy on chepeshi’s wing and avoid giving away free kicks in dangerous areas.
as long as kalusha is ther,we cnt go anywer.he asks his puppet coaches to pick players he can sale.so kip dreaming.we all allowed to dream nway.
..and what if we won?
The lack of preparatory matches is bearing fruit. A couple of games would done the team a lot of good. Going foward, only sautu, kampamba and ngoma had self confidence
50 /50 on what ? Simkonda the hell you smoking over there we got beat plain simple as that .l didn’t watch the match but judgeing by highlights our defending was suspect like our wing backs don’t get tight enough so this allows crosses to delivered easily evident the last goal by tunisia and if you recall the goals egypt scored in 3 nill loss .Defending = have a heart to put your body in hands way no back tracking when your our being pressed stop allowing crosses from coming in ( wingbacks) COM ON MAN (Simkonda)
ok I don’t understand we all watched dw game which 50-50 z he talking abt Tunisia was technically better than Zambia we lacked creativity in midfield. In all honesty chipeshi, Jack chirwa n katema shud nt star n of de games n these r de same players u call in de senior National team please get serious even i wud do better Zambia mighty beat SA bt nt Senegal i watched all de matches, lyk ge said going bak home to de drawing board if its still there.. Worst still ati Friday samu mubafunyakwisa abaiche aba awe mweeeee twanaka nama experiments……..
Im a school teacher coach but i can tell you my boys knw pretty well why a cross should never be allowed, thats half a goal because a good cross can even be turn in by a defender in his own net. It should be NO CENTRE! But look at chepeshi!! On the other hand,we lack pacey wingers who can stretch defenses. When a rare quality cross was wiped in sautu,no player ran into the 2 key spaces and it was a waste, basic moves at national team level????
To start with, no one should be talking about the Olympic games at this stage, at least, not after we have qualified for the stage where the winner will either qualify for the Olympics or for a play off.
The game was never a 50-50 affair, unless Fighton had some mathematical challenges at school. We lost the game because of lack of right tactics and lack of a winning mentality. The boys looked resigned from winning from the word go, judging by the way they were defending even when the game was one-all level. The coordination was not simply there and we could hardly string three passes without being dispossessed by our opponents. The Tunisians looked more hungrier for goals whilst our boys played like there was nothing at stake. There is thus, a need to inculcate a winning mentality in our boys and a Never-Say-Die attitude.
The fitness of some of the boys in the squad is simply not there and I am left wondering whether some of the injuries are a carry forward or just happened during our Saturday game. Boys like Patrick Ngoma, what did he do on the pitch that day to warrant the POP that has been put on him? Tactically, it was also a bit too much to place a very heavy scoring burden on the young Luchanga. The boy was clearly under immense pressure. He is good but should be used in a proper formation where he does not feel over burdened. Apparently, the team is far from jelling and it looked like the boys were playing together for the first time. Floating long and high balls upfront has never been our pattern of playing but it would appear the coach had his own hidden reasons for this style of play.
Going forward, I hope Simukonda read the game properly and picked weaknesses of his team. Talking as a non-technical person in the area, I think he has a hat rick of a problem to solve, namely, ball-watching defenders, disjointed midfield and pathetic and blunt shooting upfront. I am afraid, if these weaknesses are not addressed, no calculator will give you comfortable results and in the next 3-4 days, the team Manager will be confirming our flight back home.
I meant to say….at least, not BEFORE we have…
Zed coaches are dull, he has failed to identify the mistakes his team made. They were poor in a lot of areas but here he is praising them.
Fikaisova mentality!
@ROK. All those issues you are talking about are a result of not being prepared. I have stated before, and it seems everyone is stuck on blaming the coach. This team had no preparation.
These young guys have not had a single friendly game. Not even against Garden Stars or had long enough camp to even understand eachother. Very sad that even in this day and age the fans expect Zambia to come in wallop teams without even putting in the time or the effort to do so. Talent and coaching is not enough, time and preparation are also required. This has always been the problem with these junior tournaments, and people always wonder why Zambia doesn’t succeed. You have players who are playing together for the first time, in the actual tournament…really??!!!
In the next game the strikers need not respect RSA defenders but be versatile and precise on goal.Luchanga looked lost(I believe we are missing the Kampamba Kangwa combination)upfront.
@Big Steve, how do you rate Zambia vs RSA,since you the both teams very well.
@Big Steve, how do you rate Zambia vs RSA,since you know the both teams very well.
I can answer on his behalf. To be honest man, South Africa U23 is very good. I don’t even know why they lost to Senegal. Zambia has to really dig deeper. You will see for yourself later today.
If one of my parent was not Zambian i would i opted to change nationality, the people we entrust to run national affairs are full of zero hopes.Everyday is either useless kwacha with its gymunastics or football always going to the useless drawing board, soo pathetic.
I understand your frustrations bro. It’s really hard to be a Zambia.
It’s true FAZ did nothing to prepare these boys for this tournament. @Positive thinking I remember you mentioning lack of preparation before we went to Senegal.
Having said that we just have to make do with what we have. RSA have a good team it wont be easy. The strength is in the midfield. Their star player is Mamelodi Sundowns youngstar Keegan Dolly. He plays on the left side of the midfield. If our boys can keep him quiet we stand a better chance. He is skilful, quick and can score goals. The have a Super Sport FC defender out of the Zambia game by the name of Derwin Farmer.
Zambian Young Guns go and conquer and qualify against all odds. Shalom
what time is the game?
16:45hrs
ba billy am disappointed in you and the way u conducted yourself via those abominable insults in the other blogg. I view u as a positive contributer to this group but sein those insults its really sad
I am sorry my brother. Some of these low lifes are the cause of all this. Please accept my apology. I will just over look them even if they insult me.
Wish the boys well. we shall overcame our brothers S.A bafanana maninghi
2:0 in favour of Chipolopolo
@ the gaffer.allow me to answer you. south africa is better than zambia by far. i watched them playing against zimbabwe.simukonda is very dull how can you go back to the drawing board yet you are at the middle of the tournament.his grammar is very poor.you can only go back to the drawing board to restart after you have completely failed. the chances of qualifying are still their if he is going to rectify his errors and come up with a winning team. its not going to be easy because the man does not have material.sululani phiri and billy mutale should reinforce the defence..
i mean to say to rectify the team’s weakness. but in actual sense its shear waste of time cause the material on the bench is rotten
Zambia can put off the South African Olympic fire. I only wish the likes of Salulani Phiri are deployed into the field to do battle.
we need evan kangwa and lubambo in that game cos these two boys can creat goals.i wonder y evans ve been left out he played well wen zambia played sudan.i must say am really disapointed with de way our technical bench select players. This nt a kantemba bt a national team.
