Power face cup exit as they are pounded in Gabon

Power Dynamos paid heavily for a naive approach to an away game in the CAF Confederations Cup when they were pounded 4 – 0 by FC Mounana of Gabon in Libreville.

Coach Tenant Chilumba named an ambitious and very attacking line-up in the away game going into the game with a 4 3 3 formation.

Mounana cruised to a 1 – 0 lead by half-time after opening the scores in the 31st minute and ensured that they put one foot into the next round by scoring three more in the second half.

According to reports from Gabon, Power have goalkeeper Joshua Titima to thank for keeping the score at that margin as he saved what seemed to be sure goals.

Power have a mammoth task to overcome the four goal deficit when the two teams meet in the return leg in Kitwe in a fortnight.

Power Dynamos XI V FC Mounana

Joshua Titima – Derrick Mwansa, Lawrence Chungu, Billy Mutale, Christopher Munthali, Thomas Nyirenda (C), Julius Situmbeko, Kelvin Mubanga, Jimmy Ndhlovu, Alex Ngonga, Ignatius Lwipa

  1. The Zambian league is very useless and weak. This is what I used to tell punch who compared rodrick kabwe to Romanian based fwayo tembo. Fwayo is better than all the players in the Zambian league it’s unfortunate he had club issues.

    • A player that has talent (15%) with wrong attitude (85%) can never be the best in any best practice performance management tool. Attitude (HAVE TO DO) accounts for 85% of success while Knowledge/Skills/Talent accounts only for 15%. john we need to run away from overhyping players that clearly have dented their careers as soon we have them failing to account for their self destruction mode when they call a curtain on their careers.

  2. THIS WAS SEEN FIRST FROM THE NATIONAL TEAMS NOW THIS IS HAPPENING
AND WHEN WE CALL KALUS HEAD PEOPLE ARE SPEAKING AMA “LABISHI” ALL U17,U20 AND SENIOR TEAMS NOW ITS THE CLUBS AM VERY HATE HATE MWILEKA TUTUKANE BAMAMBALA

  3. One thing we never learn from is to take any opening game seriously! We always want to work hard in the second or third game when our fate is often decided and sealed in our first game! We play our first game casually banking on the second game – always! Oh, how foolish! Then , mathematics from other teams – waiting to affect us positively, and has not worked – it never works! Time to fire people!

  4. Zambian football has hit its lowest bottom. The earlier we admitted that we are in deep problems the better. Zambian clubs just like the respective national teams (U17, U20 & senior team) are all useless. The Zambian league is weak and useless. Watching these games on TV, thanks to SS9, is like watching an amateur league.

  5. Muletulekela ba Kalampa with an honorary Continental representation as even where we fail (Arabs’ jinx) palamoneka. Struggling with teams from Gabon and Guinea isn’t just own. Where the hell are the stalwarts Sir Jojo, Prof. Soccerguru and Power 90 kanshi-kekekekeke. Ba Dinamo couldn’t even respond to my whatsapp message last evening.

  6. Watching the league now is like watching school football in the 80’s.Infact secondary school football was even better than what we are subjected to as Super league football today. If we dont go back to the basics, that is school football, reserve teams and youth academies,we are doomed.Watching Zesco,Power or any of the top 4 teams in our league, you get the feeling that there is no future for our game.I remember HR reminding us that we were just an average footballing nation and should desist from over hyping ourselves!

  7. There is a reason everyone sits back and plays for the draw in the away leg. Keep it compact and if you can get the away goal from a break all the better, but consider it a bonus. You don’t go all out attack in the opponents back yard, that keeps the game wide open and with home ground advantage it works in favour of the home team.

Honestly 4-3-3 was a blunder for an away game were a draw would have been a good result.

  8. It’s always not easy to win the first games as Zambia’s league has been on recess for a three month period, while our colleagues have been active.
Sorry for Power I am a Walya Walya.Hope they can turn the tables. in 1978, Mighty beat Simba Sports 4-0 in Tanzania. We lost at Independo by 5-0. so anything can happen in football.
Though having seen Gabon when they came to Lusaka , they can really close the game and will pack 4 buses. It will be hard.
