When Power Dynamos fans celebrate goals, victories and trophies, much of the attention naturally goes to the players and coaches on match day. But behind the Club’s recent success is a detailed preparation process that often happens away from the spotlight.
One of the key figures in that process is Lemekani Mwanza, Power Dynamos’ video analyst, whose work involves studying matches, identifying patterns and providing insights that help shape the Club’s tactical approach.
Born in Ndola and raised between the Copperbelt and Lusaka, Lemekani’s route into football has been different from many others working in the game today. He never played professionally, but football remained a constant part of his life from an early age.
He attended Jessy Mbanga and Woodlands B Primary Schools before completing his secondary education at Kabulonga Boys. His academic journey later saw him earn qualifications in Power Electrical, Marketing and Film Production before eventually finding his place in football performance analysis.
Lemekani developed his understanding of the game through amateur football, where he featured both as a striker and a goalkeeper, including representing Kabulonga Boys.
“I did not play professionally. I played at amateur level and actually had an interesting journey. I started out as a striker, which I think gave me a good sense of attacking patterns and how goals are built, and then transitioned into becoming a goalkeeper,” he said.
“I also featured for my secondary school team at Kabulonga Boys. So, while the professional route was not my path, the game was always part of my life growing up.”
His journey into performance analysis began after completing the Confederation of African Football (CAF) D Coaching Course, when a mentor encouraged him to explore a field that was still relatively unfamiliar in Zambian football.
He holds qualifications in Tactical Analysis from Barça University and Performance Analysis from the Professional Football Scouts Association. He is also pursuing a Master of Science in Performance Analysis in Football through the Global Institute of Sport, in partnership with the University of East London.
Lemekani joined Power Dynamos during the 2023/24 season and has since become an important part of the Club’s technical setup.
Working closely with the coaching staff, he provides match analysis, opposition scouting, player performance reports and tactical observations that support decision-making before, during and after matches.
Away from Club football, Lemekani also serves as an analyst with the Zambia Women’s National Team, contributing to match preparation and tournament analysis at international level.
While the players deliver the performances on the pitch, Mwanza’s work behind the scenes continues to play an important role in helping Power Dynamos prepare with detail, clarity and purpose.
