Power blunt Arrows to go top

Power Dynamos on Monday evening dislodged Zanaco at the top of the FAZ Super League table after they beat visiting Red Arrows 1 – 0 in a rescheduled fixture.

A 13th minute goal by Luka Lungu was enough to help the Kitwe team shoot to 30 points one ahead of Zanaco and Zesco United who move to second and third position respectively.

Buoyed by a capacity crowd for a game that kicked off at 17:30hrs in what could be the first league fixture played under flood flights in recent times, the Tenant Chilumba coached side settled quickly and were relentless in attack.

Their efforts paid off when Lungu headed home from a Chrispin Mulenga cross to open his account for the season.

However, the Zambia Air-Force men would not go down without a fight as they came close soon after going down and Power had goalkeeper Joshua Titima to thank for keeping them in the lead.

Festus Mbewe who was on target for the national team remained a constant threat in the Arrows attack while Kennedy Mudenda showed renewed energy in the Power midfield.

Chipolopolo goalkeeper Danny Munyao who helped Zambia beat Namibia over the weekend gave way for his understudy Kenny Mumba owing to a knee injury. Mumba is the second choice goalie for the U23 national team.

With Power and Zanaco each having one more game to play and Zesco having two games in hand, the remaining rescheduled fixtures will be awaited with anticipation as they will decide which teams reaches the half-way mark in command.

  1. More under floodlight matches should be played. Was so happy with the crowd turnout that they gave the home side good support.

  2. I was so impressed by the power, skill and determination of Festus Mbewe, it was like i was watching a different Festus altogether, if the boy continues like that he’ll soon be our no. 1 striker

    • @shadiest I couldn’t agree with you more… Festus looked far more dangerous than ever before the guy has really improved, his work rate has improved too he gave the power defence all sorts of problems

  3. @shadbeat my apologies for spelling your name incorrectly it was a typing error am using a phone not a laptop. Sorry once more
