U23 squad to play Ivory Coast named

Zambia U23 coach Fighton Simukonda has named a 26 man squad that will go in camp ahead of the CAF U23 Championship qualifier against Ivory Coast.

Simukonda has retained the team which beat Botswana 3 – 1 over two legs and will welcome back Salulani Phiri and Mukuka Mulenga who played a key role against Nigeria when the young Chipolopolo were dumped out of the All Africa Games race.

Paul Katema who made his debut with the senior team before playing for the U23 has also made the team.

Zambia play away in Abidjan on 19th July in the final round first leg of the qualifiers with the return leg to follow on August.

The winner over the two legs will qualify to the second edition of the CAF U 23 Cup to be held in Senegal this December where the four finalists at that tournament will advance to the 2017 Rio Olympics.

  1. Go n set up camp in Denmark and test yourselves with a couple of friendly games there.
Hope FAZ can dig deep in their pockets though.

  2. These preparations which are done within zambia rather africa are not helpful, I suggest FAZ should look into it and arrange for under 23 team to camp in europe and play a lot of friendly matches with the teams in there, failure to that we are just waiting for a BIG LOSE

  3. Sometimes I wonder why Zambia’s soccer fraternity undermines the talent it has. Why is Billy Mutale sidelined from the CHAN squad? This guy could be one of the best locally based defenders. I bet he can form a hard to crack defence in a youthful combination of the likes of Muntlhali, Chongo,Mulenga,Kapumbu etc

  4. Sate Sate should have been included,we need some who has record of scoring in a high profile matches with good position as well as scoring on rebunds. You to call him when things becomes hard.

  5. Sate Sate should have been included,we need some who has record of scoring in a high profile matches with good position as well as scoring on rebunds. You to call him when things becomes hard. Its not time for try and error at this stage of the qualifya.

  6. were is Evance kangwa ba nkoko? why leaving experience? this Patson Daka thing will not end at the expense of the tried and proven.

  7. its a gud team but where is sate sate? Fighton u are a gud coach, plz includ sate sate in a team, dont behev lik lwandamina who put gud players who can give him gud results on de bench. i trust u i can remember whn u was at zesco, in 2009 caf champions ligue were zesco reach de group stage & finishd third behind kano pillars of nigeria & al hilal of sudan.

  8. Include evens KANGWA. Ivory coast will tty by all means to beat us at their backyard. So let our boys go there and score early so that the host come from behind.

  9. What tournament is this? Its not clear because for the CHAN I thought its the one that Namibia was beaten, This should be an All Africa games qualifier or Olympics. Can someone update me on this.

  10. True football fans should know little things like players nicknames, real names, where they or are playing, what the programmes are for their teams.Alas it seems not to be the case with frequent bloggers of Zamfoot who do not know alot I Guess.

  11. If they made grade they be attached in the developmental side.. Patson and ngoma. Evans, mbola, obby chirwa and Lewis macha they are all eligiable to play for under 23. I wonder why they are not part of the team ..

  12. patson daka & ngoma they wil not pass thier trials. kalaba, chisamba, fwayo & lubambo musonda are de only players we hv so far who can play 4 lile. there are talented west africans players 2 compete in franch ligue 1. so we dont want renard 2 be fired!! jst becoz u want renard 2 sign yo plunks who failed 2 score against minows, guinea bissau namibia & malawi. renard needs goals 2 protect his job.

  13. HR is no fool he will not sign those kids and if he does, then they will only be attached to developmental sides.I wonder what tapes they presented for these lads to even be awarded a trail,I Was not sure if patson was up for the challenge against stupid, useless football countries like GB,Namibia and Malawi. Those are games one need to make a name for himself need to show what they made of,but was not the case.

  14. Every zambian should suport these boys, if the pass the wil be loaned sam were. After a year o so they can join the main team
