Chipolopolo midfielder will miss Thursday’s home fixture but is available for the return leg in Bujumbura
Chipolopolo midfielder Klings Kangwa will be available for Zambia’s second Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Burundi after serving his four-match suspension, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed.
Kangwa will miss Zambia’s home encounter against Burundi at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola on 13 November as he completes the final match of his suspension. However, he will be eligible for selection when the two sides meet again in Bujumbura on 17 November.
The midfielder’s suspension stems from his red card during Zambia’s 3-0 defeat by Morocco at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Kangwa was sent off in stoppage time despite having been substituted for Given Kalusa in the 79th minute, meaning some supporters may have missed the incident.
CAF subsequently extended his suspension to four matches following his altercation with the match official during and after the incident.
His availability for the return fixture will provide a timely boost for Zambia as they look to strengthen their position in Group I and maintain their push for qualification for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Chipolopolo currently sit second in the group with three points from two matches, one behind leaders Algeria. Togo are also on three points, while Burundi occupy bottom place with one point.
The back-to-back encounters offer Zambia an important opportunity to collect maximum points and improve their chances of securing a place at the continental showpiece.
The 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, branded AFCON PAMOJA 2027, will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania from 19 June to 17 July 2027.
