With about eight weeks before Zambia engages Kenya in the 2017 Gabon Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, government has now stated that the national team coach will be engaged by the beginning of August.
Sports Deputy Minister Ronald Chitotela said that government is done with its homework in preparing the emoluments for the new coach.
“As Government we want to reiterate and confirm that come 1st August, we are ready to pay for the coach, so it will be up to FAZ to pick whichever coach they would want to employ and within the coming week we are writing to FAZ to request them to begin the process of recruiting the coach,” Chitotela told the Daily Mail.
“It is the responsibility of Government to pay the senior national team coach. We are ready as Government and to make it crystal clear next week will not end. We shall write to FAZ,” he said.
Last month, Sports Minister Vincent Mwale told the nation that the new coach would be engaged by the 20th of June, 2015 but there has been no comment from either the government or FAZ on when the new coach will be named.
The Chipolopolo are currently being drilled by care-taker coach George Lwandamina.

We don’t need a single-hand picked coach. Such a coach wont do us any good because FAZ will interfere as usual in the selection of players. Employ too a video analyst and a psychologist. Advertise please.
Why the secrecy, it would be nice to let the soccer fraternity know the aspiring candidates.
Zambia is one of the poorest and most corrupt. Countries in africa. Why are they failing to advertise that job. We all saw how patson daka flew to France for trials after producing nothing against bissau. Kalusha has gone too far
We don’t want him to be involved in the coach selection. Further, why has govt taken so long to hire a coach. That shows how poor zambia is
HOW POOR IS ZAMBIA? —> ZAMBIA HAVE DESTINED A
CHIPOLOPOLO COPPER FACTORY , WITH ALL HER AGRICULTURAL
EXPORTS..WHY IS ZAMBIA POOR , MY GOOD OLD JOHN..
UR LEADERS LIKE YU JUST SAID DONT CARE HOW THEY DISTINGUISH
THE MASSES AND ZFA ..THE GREAT KALU HAS DONEHIS JOB FOR ZAMBIA LOONG TIME AGO..WHY IS HE STILL PART OF ZFA ?..
EVERY COUNTRY ADVERTISES A COACH, ITS NOT HEADS OF FOOTBALL ASSOCIATIONS HEADS WHO BRINGS IN COACHES..
CHIPOLOPOLO PROBLEMS IS FROM KALU..
Well said dear Kwame. I guess you seem to understand the source of Zambia’s football woes.
@KWAME NKRUMAH You are 100% correct We need revival!!!!!!!
Its not about being poor, its planning and test our local coaches.we cnt fail to pay a coach so let’s halt talking poor poor poor. Its good for local instructors to have been given a nod and its a reason they undergo coaching clinics.
This should be advertised for prospective candidates to apply. Why the secrecy? What is there to hide? Who is picking the coach ? Transparency or at least deemed transparency is expected in this exercise of appointing a coach . Did we see how Ghana choose Avram Grant? About four or five coaches were interviewed, pruned down to three & interviewed again & then finally settled on Grant. NO BACKROOM DEALS, please
@Mulenga – mwalasa – you’ve hit the nail on the head-cap! CORRUPTION should be rooted out…if we are to go somewhere.
Zambia is very poor, they can not afford to pay foreign coach, so keep local coach, and stop making people fool,. stop drama and start firing kalusha
I agree that we need to advertise for a coach not one. Who is mysteriously picked.
Why do some people like talking our country down? Be proud Zambia, you have a right to be frustrated but glorify your Zambia. Why you think that others are failing/doing wrong is because you feel that you are good, so Zambia is good then.
There is something wrong in the way we conduct our football business. We just do things and hope for the best results which is a wrong approach all together. Our football is in disarray at the moment because of this kind of attitude. Things like transparency in the selection process of our coach should be key to bettering our game & image but we are still at it busy using underhand methods…. well it worked when we brought Herve Renard but that was just a one-off & we were lucky that our gamble paid off otherwise we are lying to ourselves right now
Let’s wait and see since the selection of a national coach is according to them ‘a classified case’ where the tax payers got no right to know who the hiring .
i agree with john. we need 2 advertise de job not hand picking coaches, we dont want kalu 2 be envolved in coach selection & i was also shockd 2 see patson daka who faild 2 score against guinea bissau 2 flew to france for de trials at a big club like lile, who used 2 play uefa & europa.
Faz hear what the population z seeking for. advertise so that some coaches could candidate dem selves… avoid secrecy. and do as brazil z doing, by holding board meetings involving coaches and players. to see if you can share ideas. and also let as promote public debates for the people to say what they feel and would like to see in the team
my best choice for coach would be Herve Renard
Qualified coaches are hard to come by Nowadays people use recruiting agents who don’t come cheap. It sometimes takes upto 4 years to get a coach you want. Just like players, good and reputable coaches are in demand we will have to payout a good coaches contract and be willing to give more to the coach
Keshi, Daglish, Gavin Hunt, Siasia, Le Roux, DeSaily, and Soljaer are coaches Faz can approach.
——-> OR MAY BE AKWASI APPEAH.. HAHAHAHA Lol.
Why not Kwesi is a good coach
In RSA I would only go for Clive Barker cause I have seen that He is good with bigger responsibilities and He can revive the dying spirit of Chipolopolo. Others I doubt, cause this time We need a Coach who will not only drill Chipolopolo but also inspire them back to their winning ways.
watever method faz wil decide so i dont kno wich one better. U can advertise 100 coaches wil apply, but only one wil get da job so u can not run away fro faz.
If I had a way in this coach selection I would pick Oga STEVIE KESHI.
That guy is useless. I am shocked you can even mention that name. He will lamentably fail in Zambia what with the incompetent Kalu led FAZ.
Not Steven Keshi pls he’s big headed.
Keshi has failed with Nigeria and he is too small to coach Zambia. We need to advertise because Zambia has money highly qualified coaches. Kalu is going to pick another p.e teacher . Pagels former Zimbabwe national team coach who beat Zambia in lusaka is the coach for Zambia . He introduced tik taka .
My opinion is that the Project Management course must be introduced in our curriculum at high school level and should be made mandatory. Just principles of Project Management will try to help us. Zambia is not poor, it’s lack of planning and implementation of various projects, and football admin is one of them. That attitude of “Fikaisova” is what has been destroying Zambia. We don’t take issues very serious in Zambia.
——–> THAT IS THE POINT… I AGREE WITH YU–
MR BILLY..
AFRICAN LEADERS ARE MISMANAGEMENTS..IN MY OWN COUNTRY
THE SAME THING HAPPENS SOMETIMES..UNLESS THE MASSES
PUNCHES THEIR FACES TO MAKE THEM THINK..
THERE MUST BE A CHANGE, GREAT KALUSHA BWALYA HAVE ALREADY
HELPED AND SERVED HIS COUNTRY WITH DISTINTION LOONG TIME
AGO.. THERE MUST BE A CHANGE FOR DIFFERENT IDEAS..
GOOD LUCK ZAMBIA..
Yes Billy its not just a matter of introducing project management at high school level which I agree is a brilliant and wise observation but also enforcing some kind of standards in various sectors as at now. For example, with regards to your observation, in order to force FAZ to start employing some serious project and program management skills the Government should attach some conditions to their paying the Coach of the national team and this should be like a contractual agreement with some targets set for the development of Football.
So our honourable minister was just blowing smoke up…….when he made that announcement. This one act has me doubting his capability already.
So Aaron Katebe dropped an opportunity to play for Sundowns last year and is now on trial at Polokwane City. Some decisions are hard to understand.
@Big Steve 4rm SA, it might look a rugged or torrid decision to have been made by Him but I will take hi side, However, as I do not trust Sundowns.. there is something wrong there I have been here for a long time and have watched most Zambian players almost hung up their boots under them (Sundowns) only a few succeeded to improve.
He was right, Mukuka was sent out on loan, Himonde out on loan, so why go there if they are not sure where they will use you? Then go to a sm,aller team and play (which means gaining experience and improving in every game). Being bought and sent on loan can be demoralising what if the club fires the coach? Then you start again?
I personally feel that Zambia cannot afford all those coaches being suggested here just as much as I appreciate the idea of advertising but that again will just be shear waste of time because, we will not afford the salaries of those who will apply hence I Feel the issue of just hand picking and hope it again works in our favor again.
FAZ must feel the pressure so they can do there job otherwise they will think they have the whole of Zambia in their pockets. Lets apply more pressure. Just like the Ghanian is saying “punch their faces for them to understand”! LOL
@nkwame, kwesi appiah cant coach zambia, we beat him when he was with the black stars & al khatoum3 of sudan, we need a qualifyd european coach with a gud record.
What we need in Zambia and Africa is what our colleagues at CONCACAF are planning to introduce. In view of recent corruption scandals that have rocked FIFA, we must introduce reforms based on governance, fraud prevention and transparency.
http://www.espnfc.us/fifa-world-cup/story/2513935/concacaf-outlines-reform-after-fifa-corruption-scandal
On the issue of national coach, I believe Faz has already chosen someone by now. The language being used by govt suggests all that’s remaining are modalities to tie up the deal.
hire me I am a good coach, I know who are best players are for zambia
kenshi is not the type of a coach will looking for. All we want is to be transparent in choosing a coach. If they advertise n public show us the names n there cvs, as zambians we be conviced that the association wil only pick the best out of the coaches who will apply. kenshi this ,kenshi that! Thats hand picking ,let him go and coach the super owes.

advatise please,we well proven coaches to apply.
i ment to say we need well proven coaches.
Weshould trust our own coaches, when begun our National team in 1988 Samuel ‘zoom’ Njovuo was the coach,he did fine.Let’s begin to have confidence in local coaches. And Zambian coaches pullup you stockens.
ZAMBIA sometimes i wonder were we ar going in terms of football first we lost chalie musonda ndumba makcha wat is the board doing abt it nothing y cant they advertise the job and amonst those pipo who will aply they select there choice there ar alot of coaches around the world with experience take a look at ghana…
Let Kalu be,coz he’s one in charge.
The usual experts at work!
Social media football discussions can be very passionate; some getting very emotional and others unfortunately lose track and direction especially if they are founded on untruths and such malicious concoctions and lies are exposed. Those who stand on the platform of lies and malicious claims more often than not lose focus, take their eyes off the ball and venture into unwarranted and unfounded claims.
A number of friends and colleagues alerted to some claims a former FAZ chairman posted on Facebook page. (The president Kalusha will not lower himself to that level to respond or read. We, who serve with him have the duty to put matters right.
There are many things that people will post online and it may be or not necessary to respond to them for a variety of reasons.
But for this ex-chairman of FAZ, it raises serious questions about his own personality when one looks through what he writes and claims. How can one surely you ask what Kalusha does/works? Next he will want to know what Kalusha eats, what time he goes to bed and even delve deep into his private family life. Kalu is an icon of international standing and repute and many Fas would clamour to have him in their game. For the ex-man of FAZ, how many would want him in their midst? How many would want him in his professional field of banking to work for them? Should we be discussing persons caught in their backyard trenches “taking a bath”? Such records are still there with other people even though Hon Matafwali may be deceased now.
See how this kind of debate (personality attacks) is retrogressive and doesn’t add value to football in any way, none at all.
1. Kalusha is president of FAZ, a CAF executive committee member and a member of FIFA’s Development Committee, the 1988 African Footballer of the Year, an African legend, icon of the game who dedicated 21 years to the Chipolopolo and through his leadership led Zambia to winning AFCON 2012 – the first and only time thus far that we have won the continental championship. A man whose leadership of the Zambian game has seen Zambia score unprecedented success across many development platforms of the game; from administration, coaching, refereeing, repositioning of Zambian football, Chipolopolo, women football, youth and league development. This is a discourse for another day. I have been hugely privileged to work with him and what an honour and privilege to work with a man so dedicated, passionate and committed to making his country proud. His list of accolades is long. (We would equally ask the ex- FAZ man to tell us what he does and his football pedigree but that is of no consequence because he is not a factor in the running of the game. His history is littered with anarchy, controversies and failed attempts at FAZ leadership. Without sounding rude and uncouth, the next FAZ elective AGM where all positions are subject to the ballot is due first quarter of 2016. Let all those interested – the ex-FAZ chairman in particular – join the race, present their programme (not what Kalusha eats for breakfast), debate their football development agenda and let the people decide. The game is not about acrimony and Facebook attacks. Its about the people of Zambia. It’s the people’s game. Let us co-exist with sound debate and constructive criticism and propagating ideas that can add value to our game.)
2. Who pays for Kalusha’s hotel bills? He pays for himself, using his own money. An old and beaten subject which at the height of its debate even President Mwanawasa talked about it, looked through and rested as it was clearly established. (How does this contribute to development of football?). I expect the next question to be “Who buys Kalusha food?”
3. FIFA grants to Member Associations
AFCON2012 Prize money
FAZ Marketing & Commercial undertakings
(All these matters are very clearly spelt out in FAZ audited books of accounts. For one whose been in the banking sector, I don’t want to believe he has problems looking through those and seeing how much FIFA gives Zambia and other countries; seeing how much prize money Zambia won at AFCON2012 and also declaring and letting the people know that his own team, in the second division of the FAZ Midlands zone was a beneficiary – all FAZ clubs received a share after players and officials were paid and another amount set aside for day to day administration. The total prize money, also on record in Parliamentary ‘records’ was channelled through the FAZ main bank account at Finance Bank where the ex-FAZ man was an employee (or still is, I don’t know). I’ve been at CAF and I understand the processes. The only time CAF may make special exception to hand cash payments is to players receiving awards at the Annual CAF/Glo awards. These are highly professional bodies run in conformity with set strict standards of administration. For a man to ask how CAF deals with members regarding finances is simply shocking!!!
For FIFA finances, the world body also announces. And the beauty of FIFA is that all such development matters are posted on FIFA.com. people are free to access any such info from anywhere in the world and its free!
There’s is no secret about FAZ finances – FAZ reports these and one doesn’t need to be Football House to have access to these. One can go to the National Assembly, to Ministry of Sports, to Ministry of Finance, to the CSO and National Sports Council among many institutions where FAZ financial records and audited books are available. These reports date back years. The only financial records not present at FAZ are those for that year when the ex-FAZ chairman was in office.
Everything else is there, tabulating clearly income generated and how its spent and is duly audited every year. For the Government, the state doesn’t give FAZ any money (since the Bobo saga of 1988 and Kalusha was only a player then). The state pays the players directly during AFCON and World Cup games and Kalusha has restated time and again that this system of direct payments to the team continues as it allows the Ministry of Sports do quick audits of its support to the Chipolopolo.
For the rest of championships and engagements like the ones below, FAZ uses the money we generate from sponsors and partners and gate takings to pay for them:
– CHAN team qualifiers and finals
– U23 Olympic Games
– U23 All Africa Games
– Senior Women
– Women U20
– Boys U20
– Boys U17
– Futsal National Team
– Development Programmes
– Football House administration and staff emoluments
These are huge costs and important for Zambian football development.
The government is a huge and valuable partner and am pleased to state that the support of the state is phenomenal. I was there to see President Sata speak to Kalusha and us as a team at FAZ and squad daily and direct that all team needs were met and encouraged us with every match when he took office, all the way to winning AFCON2012. It was upon president Sata assuming office that the anarchy and illegality that was centred around two men came to an end as well. Today, I’m privileged to see President Lungu continue with the interaction and support to FAZ.
4. Then issues of Kalusha and player selection, is as old and tired beaten subject. Smacks of a person lacking issues to discuss.
5. For the achievements of Kalusha and the agenda of football going forward, these are issues. I will tabulate them well. For now, going into a meeting then another interactive session with the people on radio.
The challenge we have as a people is to shame those that preach hatred, anger and frustration and are bent on nothing but destruction. Instead let us co-exist, join hands and work together. Our collective ideas will take us forward and sing one Zambia One nation and Chipolopolo iyee, not asking what Kalusha will eat tonight.
Picked from Eric Mwanza’s Timeline.
Notwithstanding the praises heaped upon yourself and Kalu, why is Kalu not resident in Zambia. If Kalu is paying for hotel bills, all well and good. Can our president go to live in Lesotho & still be our president? Please let us be realistic as Zambia is the only country whereby the FAZ president resides in a different country. This in no joking matter. Any way, who cares about what he eats for breakfast or brunch? The important thing is that he has usurped power to the extent of being untouchable and that his cronies are defending him on every aspect. Nothing wrong is found with his administration by people like you. Sycophants. Fanatics. Nobody cries wolf.
The best way to debate is to respond to FACTS raised by Eric.People have called Kalu corrupt without facts and yet when you are presented with tangible facts of how the accountability process is set up ,you go emotional about issues!
Being in South Africa or living in Zambia does not have any effect on how FAZ is run.The Secretariat is full time and run by a fully employed compliment of staff.Kalu attends every meeting related to management at Football House.Even when Mtine,Mulonga and others were at the helm, they never spent their entire time at the FAZ office because they were employees and businessmen busy with their other work. The FAZ presidency is a voluntary job with no fixed income and the Guy has to work to survive!Despite Kalu residing in South Africa,he attends almost all the key local league,Cup games and important football events than any of the so called locally based lads in Zambia! The other week he was at a local league match between Red Arrows and Mufulira Wanderers, last week he was opening the COACH’S INDABA in Lusaka and watched the Zambia vs Namibia game.
The selection of coaches is a management choice and made accountable by the sponsors of the salaries of the coach who are the Government and the management committee at Football house.Nigeria has just named Sunday Oliseh as their new coach without advertising not because they are corrupt(The most misused term in Zambia) but because as managers of the game ,they see it appropriate to do that.Head hunting or not,it is management’s prerogative unless if the process fails to meet its objective. They tried it before and it worked! The best we can do as fans is to support whoever is running the game like in the old days when we had no business trying finding out where Mtine,Michael Mwape slept or ate !
So Kalu you are now posting your views on Erics page? This is sick I don’t know what the stories are but why respond then?
Amos, can Eric Mwanza and his hero worshipping self explain what process will be used to select the new.coach? This FAZ admin has been the best and the worst all at the same time. The many achievements have been marred with some serious mismanagement and a horrendous lack of transperency. The problem is that rather than acknowledge where they have failed, they keep on talking only about the things they think they have done right. So you won AFCON 2012, but Zambia has not won an AFCON game since then. Nor has FAZ organized a high profile friendly since then. The Brazil friendly was because Ghana dropped out, the Japan friendly was organized by the Japanese FA. When’s the last time FAZ brought a worthy opponent to Zambia? Admit your failures FAZ and fix them.
What exactly would you want done if you were given the opportunity to run FAZ?The biggest problem with you guys opposing Kalu is the tendency to appropriate blame on FAZ for mistakes(Which is ok) while at the same time apportioning any success by FAZ on other factors other than FAZ.You only see things from a narrow angle of your fierce opposition to KALU as a person. This administration by comparison to previous ones in terms of results has been one of the best.Winning the AFCON in 2012 will always be a very momentous achievement that will never be belittled by sheer hatred no matter how long it takes for us to win another one.Yes mistakes have been made but who says all process are always smooth!
Students of management will tell you that management is an evolving process fraught with challenges but the most important thing is the ability to overcome such challenges in order to achieve your objectives.Lets for once be positive minded and stop this culture of always finding faults in others with no facts to back our stand.criticism is a welcome thing but sometimes could destructive!
Amos. You sound like you didn’t fully read my comment. I said this FAZ admin has been the best and the worst. I have also defended the good things that this FAZ admin has done on several occasions. Specifically with getting the TV deal, winning AFCON, and vision for youth development, but they are critical failures in the system and management that cannot be ignored.
Anyone in a position of management knows that your accolades and past glories will only carry you so far if you fail to produce positive results today and tomorrow. At that point, yesterday does not count. Winning AFCON in 2012 and then going with 0 wins in 2 consecutive tournaments is something that I would blame on the players, but I look at the logistical failures of getting the team into camp or to the tournament on time, and I also look at the failure of FAZ to even put together more than 1 friendly prior to the tournaments and that problem is on FAZ. If you are too blind to see it, then you can continue in your blindness my brother.
You want people to continue jumping for joy about an accolade that was 3 yrs ago. Being Champion expires the second the ball is kicked in the next tournament. FAZ is doing some good things, and there should be no reason to throw out the baby with the bath water, but you sir have to acknowledge that there are some shortcomings. Rather than attack me as being destructive, why not answer the questions I pose?
1. What is the process for hiring the new coach?
2. What is FAZ doing to fix the logistical issues that have become common place i.e. National Team travel to Kumasi, National Team travel to Cape Verde, National team travel to Eq Guinea 48hrs before kickoff of AFCON?
3. What process is being put in place to address remuneration issues faced from the womens junior national and womens senior national teams?
4. What are the short term, mid term, and long term goals of this FAZ administration and how will success be measured?
I humbly await your response.
By the way. I have never spoken against Kalu nor identified him as a root cause of Zambia’s issues. I am a firm believer in process i.e. if the process works then it does not matter who is in charge. What I have seen in FAZ is a failure of process and accountability. It seems they are no set procedures or protocols for handling things and it seems each time is a new time, otherwise FAZ would not repeat the mistakes that they do specifically to National team travel which we now have to cheer when it happens correctly. This to me as unacceptable.
One more question;
How much autonomy is afforded the local national team coaches in player selection? Is there a difference in player selection for local coaches as compared to foreign coaches?
also tell him to stop using kids in big games but friendlies is all I hear people always complain about, choosing players also should be stopped now you Kalu clowns how do you defend your bread winner on those aliggations.
The cronies of Kalu are defending the indefensible. Winning a single AFCON does not overshadow lapses in an administration as we are experiencing at the moment? Which FA in the world chooses a coach without advertising? Where on earth will u find the horrible travel logistics that have befallen the national teams? Our travels across the continent have been beset with poor arrangements causing us some games (probably a World Cup appearance) – our game with Ghana in mind). How dare u continue to defend such acts? If u deem such things to be minor, then u ard not fit to be in a management role. Let us grow up & desist from singing melodious tunes when we all know that the harp is broken & an obvious discord note is being played .FANATISM or is it BECOS we are beneficiaries of the broken system?
Look at the recent developments at FIFA. Most African countries still believe Blatter is the man for the job. WHY? All because we cherish corruption to the extent that we look the other way when we even see corruption. THIS HAD EATEN INTO THE FABRIC OUR SOCIETIES MAKING US THE POOREST OF THE POOR WHLE WE HAVE AN ABUNDANCE OF NATURAL RESOURCES. Very incompatible propositions. All because of corruption & our desire to condone such acts. My blood brother is my brother BUT if corrupt, l must be bold to say so & not encourage him to delve into corruption. We cannot be frank with people we love & this cancer is ruining not only our future but the future of all our offspring. WHEN IS THIS GOING TO END? Ask Yourself.
